48 Hrs. / Another 48 Hrs.
So I was looking around to pick up a copy of the 48 Hrs./Another 48 Hrs. double pack after reading that both movies were anamorphic. It has been out of print for some time and it hard to find. Some ok prices on Ebay, but I hate trusting Ebay with OOP movies.
So, to make a short story long, I went to buy.com and they have a pre-order place holder with a release date of 1/25/11.

Has anyone else heard of any re-release news for these movies? Individual Blu-rays were scheduled, but then canceled. I am wondering if this is a fluke or if anyone has heard any official or unofficial news.
Thanks.

FYI...Amazon Marketplace has them used from $6.10 and I have bought a ton of used DVD's from Amazon Marketplace and have NEVER had a problem with sellers with ratings over 95% which is the minimum rating of a seller I will purchase from-

Paramount sucks- almost all their movies from before 2000 are out of print, but you can still get a lot of them on Vudu and Amazon VOD. But January 25th is a Tuesday so that might actually be a valid date for a reissue.

I'm a little fuzzy on what the problem here is. It's a dual layered disc and the total running time for both features combined is only 3 hours and 11 minutes, well below the threshold for a disc of this type. What exactly is the complaint?

Having two features with no extras on a dual-layer won't result in a real loss of PQ.

Quality. A Good transfer and depending on audio track (DTS 5.1) can eat up a lot of disc space quickly.
I understand a 3 hour movie “should fit” onto a dual layer disc at “very good quality “if it's encoded
well. Obviously, there wouldn't be room for much else.
I’m not a huge fan of compression artifacts, with that said, I’m aware of the fact that DVD use MPEG-2 as a lossy compression format even at its highest quality (near 10 mbps) levels and requires chroma sub-sampling.
I'm just saying, I want the highest average bitrate without sacrificing either image or audio quality.

Re: 48 Hrs. / Another 48 Hrs.
I hear ya bud....I have been expanding my Bluray collection and slowly expiring my DVD library. I still have many movies on DVD though, and if I can find a better transfer (DVD or BD), then I will double dip.
My personal preference average bitrate for DVD quality (if the transfer is well done) would be around 7.5mbps. I have noticed though, that most major studios use on average 3.8mbps.
If 48hrs / Another 48hrs bitrate is above 6mbps average, then it is well worth the purchase IMHO....

Re: 48 Hrs. / Another 48 Hrs.
Just a quick update. Buy.com had the DVD two pack in stock so I placed an order over the weekend. The 48 Hrs. blu-ray was announced as being back on the release list for 2/22/11. Sucks that it isn't a two pack, but they studio probably didn't go back and remaster it, so I'll just stick with it on DVD.
