Corey Hart a underrated talent?

One of the great musicians of our time who got neglected lol?

Does the public demand a comeback?

I hear Sunglasses at Night is the Pinkerton of the 80's.

Fun fact: Corey Hart was originally the "third" Corey.

Yeah? Well John Parr was originally cast as the bad guy in "Mannequin".

I'd love to hear what you guys who are dismissing Mr. Hart really know about his music and talents? Little more than Sunglasses At Night or maybe one or two of his other hits, I presume.

I always liked John Parr's Naughty Naughty. Why drag him in this thread? Actually come to think of it I liked a few Corey Hart songs which are on the only CD of his I have which is his hits CD Singles. I'm old!

Re: Corey Hart a underrated talent?

Corey Hart looks almost identical to Nick Lashay, interpret that however you like.

I do have to admit, I enjoy Sunglasses at Night and the theatrically anthemic "Never Surrender"

Re: Corey Hart a underrated talent?

He may be a laughingstock to some, but I'm a big fan. "Never Surrender" is one of the best songs of the '80s (one of my favourite songs period), and Fields of Fire (1986) is one of the best albums of the decade. Here's a breathtaking ballad from said album. Give it a chance; it takes a while to get going:

And another wonderful song from same (video unrelated):

Fun fact: Because of his massive popularity at the time, he was originally asked to play Marty in Back to the Future, but he declined.

Yeah? John Parr was the original Crocodile Dundee, but left the production to help dismantle the Warsaw Pact.

I too have his entire catalogue. People give him crap, mostly out of ignorance because he was a heart-throb (just as they do a-ha, Rick Springfield, Duran Duran, or any other band comprised of good looking guys), but he is a talented singer-songwriter. There are a lot more "artists" that deserve bashing than a kid (he wrote his first album, including Sunglasses at age 20) who could actually write, produce, play and sing.

Re: Corey Hart a underrated talent?

When I was in fourth grade everyone was really into that "Sunglasses at Night" song for about a month, but I fucking hate it. I was more into Shout at the Devil at the time.

Agree completely. I also have Springfield's Written in Rock anthology, and it's just packed to the rafters with good tunes. I couldn't care less if the chicks dig him, or whatever.
Erstwhile teen-heartthrob status aside, Hart is talented, as you noted. He writes some meaningful songs and his voice is instantly recognizable. Not all of his albums are first rate (Attitude and Virtue and Bang are middling), but his two last albums, 1996's eponymous work and 1998's Jade are among his best. I guess he thereafter lost the passion.

Here's a French-language ballad called "La-Bas", which he wrote and recorded with his wife for his last album. Nice:

Re: Corey Hart a underrated talent?

He was HUGE in high school. To the point where I'd get my hair cut and ask for the "Corey Hart." Which replaced the "Rick Springfield."

"Spot You in a Coalmine", "Bang", "I am by Your Side", "In Your Soul", "Komrade Kiev","She Got The Radio", and "Jenny Fey" are some of my favorites.

I own his video collection on dvd and it's always fun to watch from beginning to end.

So was Corey Hart the Justin Beaver of the John Hughes generation?

Re: Corey Hart a underrated talent?

Wow, who knew Corey Hart had such staunch defenders still. I guess I should rethink my plans for a "C.W. McCall -- Worst Artist of the Worst Decade in Music" thread.
