MGM adds cult titles to their MOD service
From DVD Drive-in:
"Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced that it has concluded an arrangement with Allied Vaughn that will allow MGM to expand retail distribution of MGM’s Limited Edition Collection of previously-unreleased DVD titles through an innovative distribution program. This program is called “manufacturing on demand” (“MOD”). MOD allows retailers to offer MGM’s Limited Edition Collection for sale on their websites without ever having to order product upfront because each DVD is “custom built” for a specific consumer order that is placed on a retailer’s website. This strategy now gives retailers the opportunity to offer MGM titles that they might not be offering to consumers. Initially, more than fifty films will be included in MGM’s Limited Edition Collection with an expansion plan to release over 400 new to DVD titles within the next 18 months. The first wave of titles include ROLLING THUNDER (1977), DIARY OF A MADMAN (1963), FUTUREWORLD (1976), THE SATAN BUG (1965), THE PRIVATE FILES OF J. EDGAR HOOVER (1977), VIGILANTE FORCE (1976) and CAPTAIN KIDD AND THE SLAVE GIRL (1954). Some of the titles will include the original trailer and they will have an SRP of $19.98."

Rolling Thunder is one of my personal favorites, I own 4 bootleg copies, I hope they clean it up a little for this "release".

The MGM DVDr line has had some of the worst problems on Amazon. House of the Long Shadows was completely pulled because of quality issues (read the customer feedback). Bottom line, I'm not buying any of these until I see some positive reviews, and only if the return policy is very liberal.

They've had new transfers of a lot of unreleased titles on Netflix Instant recently- this DVD-R shit sucks though. At least price them lower!

So, apparently Rolling Thunder is now out (Amazon link). I know it's probably too early (it came out Jan. 28), but anyone order it or seen any reviews? Some impressions would be nice.

Rolling Thunder dropped from 17.99 to 15.99 on Amazon overnight. I'm seriously considering it. I'm assuming this is a good blind buy for someone that's a fan of 70's and 80's action flicks?

It's definitely in that vein, but it's more of a slow burn as the "action" quotient really happens in the finale. It's very much like a Walter Hill film though so if you like The Driver, you'll dig this one.

I just came here to post this. I ordered it at the $15.99 price. I already own the boot, but hopefully this has better picture quality than that.

I didn't care for it when I saw it years ago, but I'm obviously in the minority.

Re: MGM adds cult titles to their MOD service
Thanks for the feedback guys. I read a synopsis that made it sound like it was a revenge movie. I love a good revenge flick. So, I went ahead and bit at the 15.99 price last night. I'll report back on quality when I receive it.
