Problem with my Philips BR player?
I have a Philips Blu-Ray player from 2009. It works fantastic for the most part. I am having one very minor problem. It seems that every BR movie I play on it freezes up for about 5 seconds, then continues with the movie. This only happens once for a typical 2 hour movie and it happens at a random scene. I upgraded the firmware about 6 months ago. Any reasons why this is happening?

Re: Problem with my Philips BR player?
Plenty of possibilities, any or all of these could be at fault:
dirty discs
scratched discs
firmware issue (it's been awhile, check)
dirty laser lens
laser transport beginning to weaken
Or maybe you're just crazy or drunk. Are you losing chunks of time in any other situations?

Re: Problem with my Philips BR player?
The laser assembly has to move back and forth a couple inches to cover the whole disc. Just like in VCRs, the motors that move things are usually what breaks down first. Sometimes you see disc players tout their fabulous motor that spins the disc, how it will never break down....what about the smaller one that moves the laser? They never mention that one...
You usually see "tracking error" when people talk about such problems/failures. This is basically the cause of failure of all of my CD/DVD players ever, except one where the power supply exploded.
