Syfy orders new 'Battlestar Galactica' series pilot
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/blo...alactica-32184
Apparently Ron Moore is not on this project. Given the way he handled the BSG finale, not sure whether this is good or bad.
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, a sentient robotic race, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a brash rookie viper pilot enters the fray. Ensign William Adama, barely in his 20’s and a recent Academy graduate, finds himself assigned to the newest battlestar in the Colonial fleet… the Galactica. The talented but hot-headed risk-taker soon finds himself leading a dangerous top secret mission that, if successful, will turn the tide of the decade long war in favor of the desperate fleet.

Sounds like they are milking this franchise for all it's worth. Kinda like Paramount did with Trek years ago.
Oversaturation.
Let it rest.

Re: Syfy orders new 'Battlestar Galactica' series pilot
Here in the UK, I've yet to see a single ep of the rebooted BG but I've read good things. Maybe something to pick up on DVD one find day to sit alongside my recently-acquired Bab5 boxset (which I'll enjoy watching again to see missed eps and whichever movie-length ones that were shown out of sequence here).
With regard to the mining of the Star Trek franchise, although I thought the liberties taken with some of the established history showed a certain arrogance on the part of a couple of guys that maybe should've known better, I found something to like in pretty much every spin-off. While I enjoyed ST:TNG when it first aired, when I catch a few minutes of a re-run it often looks a little creaky whereas the subsequent shows don't seem to have aged as badly in this viewer's eyes. An odd confession but, because of the way they've been aired here, I don't think I've yet seen all of The Original Series!

Maybe they'll CGI on the EJO style skin tone...

I thought the guy from Razor who played young Cylon war I era Adama was pretty good, and he even did the EJO gruff voice, why not use him?

I'm still in with this franchise. I loved BSG, enjoyed the finale and final season. Caprica found its voice, though too late.
I wonder how actiony they'll try to make this. Spend money on big CG space and ground battles to draw in the masses and require higher ratings or make it small and personal for the most part and suffocate?

Re: Syfy orders new 'Battlestar Galactica' series pilot
All this is offshooting from BSG 2K3, so lacking the creativity of the people involved, I'd say go with what got you there. A bit of scifi geekery, but compelling stories delivered by likable (and competent) actors. No way I say make it expensive and require higher ratings. SciFi shows tend not to be ratings leaders. "Lost" is the only recent SciFi show I can think of that did gangbuster ratings. It was truly unique in how it made SciFi accessible. If a SciFi show is going to be big and expensive, it better know exactly what it's doing (less likely) or be prepared for cancellation (more likely).

That has to be an old pic of Luke Pasqualino (young Adama). He's supposed to turn 22 next month. I think imdb has a recent picture of him in the photos section.
Not sure what syfy will do with the budget. Can't blame them if they don't want to invest too much in this after Caprica.

Looks good.
What's the deal with this? At one time it was going to be a new series...then just a mini series....then just a webisode or two.......from the looks of the trailer (i.e. budget) I guess it will be the like original galactica; A movie "pilot" episode that will spawn a series if it does well.

I could make anything look cool with quick cuts and good music. I have high expectations, but will wait to see how it is before I rush to judgment.

Well the trailer was sick. Loved BSG but prequel stuff doesn't interest me much I guess because I already know how it all ends. I never watched Caprica, didn't sound in any way interesting. Will have to give it a chance though.

Don't go crazy yet. It's just a 2 hour movie Backdoor Pilot. It's currently on SyFy's development slate for being a series. SyFy hasn't scheduled an airdate for the movie yet. If the movie does well, don't expect a series to come out for at least a year.
