Scream (1996) 16:9 Anamorphic?

I remember this film orignally came out as 2.35:1 non-anamorphic but recently I checked out that title at the store and noticed on the back cover that it read 2.35:1 anamorphic. Enhanced for 16X9 TVs.

The DVD I saw was the Canadian version from Alliance Home Video but the packaging and extras are exactly the same as they were when it first arrived on DVD.

Is the US version now anamorphic or is it an Alliance Home Video-only feature?

I'm pretty sure there are no R1 anamorphic versions of Scream, and packaging updates have been lies.

The only way to get 16:9 versions of Scream or Halloween 6/H20 is to get the Canadian Alliance Blu Ray releases.

Amazon.ca has them all. You have to buy the scream trilogy in order to get scream, runs about 30. Same goes for Halloween, 6,h2o and 8 are in a set for around 20. These are all playable in the u.s., ca is the same region as u.s.

Is the Alliance disc have the uncut/director's cut version of the first film?
I'm still holding onto my R2 DVD (which I believe is anamorphic), until it's released over here.

The Alliance Blu-ray is the theatrical edit of the film.

Just wait 'til next year. I'm sure these will be rereleased when Scream 4 comes out in April.

Well, not the *only* way. There have been anamorphic editions in other regions.

As far as the Halloween movies (6/7/8), I'd definitely recommend the Alliance blu-ray. Cheap, US-friendly, and pretty solid quality.

For Scream... you might as well wait a few months. I'm sure we'll see some improved DVD/BD options when #4 hits theaters.

Re: Scream (1996) 16:9 Anamorphic?

Scream was released as an Anamorphic dvd in other regions quite a while back. It was also the "uncut" version that we never got here in the States. I own the dvd and honestly the few seconds that were cut aren't that big of a deal. Having an anamorphic disc however WAS a big deal!!

I've since purchased the Scream Trilogy on blu-ray. I purchased a German released set and also purchased the Canadian trilogy blu-ray set. For an average price of $30 I'd recommend them! It's not the 'uncut' version of part 1, but they all look pretty decent and should hold you over until an official US release is made. It would seem likely that next year they would release them on blu-ray after Scream 4 hits the theatres, but there's nothing set in stone for its release. Dimension/Weinstein movies have gotten the shaft here in the states due to the studio's financial issues apparently.

I also own the Halloween 3 movie set from Canada and found it to be a pretty solid release as well. H20 looks much better than the non-anamorphic dvd that was released here in the US.

And for the record... Canadian blu-rays are the same region as the US and are 100% compatible with US players.

I dont know whats up with mine... because I swore on my older TV it was lettboxed...the back cover doesnt say its enhanced. But I went to watch mine for a Halloween Marathon and its coming up filing my entire screen in 2.35:1 Its a little fuzzy...but it looks ok. Mines from the trilogy box set... Idk whats up...but cant complain.

Some letterboxed movies have the Zoom flag set and on compatible players/tvs it automatically switches the tv to Zoom mode, which may be happening with yours.

I picked up the AU Blu-ray import of Scream 1, but hold out if you can. With Scream 4 hitting box offices in Spring 2011, we are guaranteed to get US Blu-ray releases and a new DVD set should hit as well.

Yeah, some of my Miramax DVDs do this... I've noticed it on Scream and Halloween H20.

Keep believing that if you want....with the serious current lack of BD catalog releases put out by Disney (who still own all Dimension films from prior to the split with the Weinsteins in 2005), it is FAR from "guaranteed" that we will see any US BD release of the original three Scream films next year, no matter if part 4 is in theaters or not....

Agreed!! There most likely will be a blu-ray release of the films around the release of Scream 4, but that's not guaranteed. If you enjoy the films I recommend the Canadian blu-ray set. It can be had for $30 or less and all three films look much better than the dvd releases. Part 1 is NOT the Director's Cut, but then again neither is the US released Non-Anamorphic DVD!! I have the director's cut Asian dvd as well, and the extra footage only amounts to a few seconds anyway... no big deal.

Bottom line.. if you are a big fan of the movies and have a blu-ray player I think you'll be happy with the Canadian set.

Re: Scream (1996) 16:9 Anamorphic?

I picked up the three-disc set from AxelMusic for under $25 on it's release date.

There will be no BD release of Scream or it's sequels for a while, especially for those who think theyll be rereleased for the release of Scream 4, until the new owners of Miramax get full rights to the studio and it's catalog. From there, the owners will have to decide how they'll want to distribute the Miramax catalog titles... so, um, you won't be seeing Miramax catalog titles on Blu-ray for about another year, of not longer.

I'm sure you'll be amazed at how quickly rights issues can be resolved when there's a new film coming up to shill.
