Man vs Food: Des Moines 10/06/10

The challenge in this episode was, to put it mildly, absurd. Five pounds of food in 15 minutes? Talk about being set up for failure. I don't think I could chew that much food in 15 minutes even if I had unlimited stomach capacity.

Those bacon-wrapped tater tots looked good though.

I've been meaning to try the Emmanecker sandwich for a few years. Maybe on my birthday in March.

The bacon-wrapped tater tots are awesome.

Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but those bacon-wrapped tater tots. And that's easy to do with a deep fryer. Have to try that.

Not sure about a reuben pizza or even the concept of sauerkraut on a pizza (and I love sauerkraut). They'd probably have something I'd like though, not that I'm ever going to be in Des Moines.

Yeah, 15 minutes seemed a bit absurd to me too. Jethro's has pretty badass BBQ, though. And the High Life Lounge is awesome too. Those bacon-wrapped tater tots are just about the best thing ever.

How can you possibly pass up the opportunity to see Des Moines???

In all seriousness, it's much better than my city - Cedar Rapids.

I did pass through Iowa briefly once - during my post-college baseball park tour......to go to Dyersville and see the Field of Dreams.

That and the Bridges of Madison County are all we have. Well...someone burned down that bridge, so we just have the Field of Dreams!

There was/is talk of building an indoor rainforest near me. I believe that people would come from as far as East Dubuque, IL to see that.

15 minutes was ridiculous for that challenge.

I was there when they were filming the High Life Lounge portion and some guy walked in and asked what was going on. I told him they were filming a show and he looked a little confused and walked out.

It wasn't until a few minutes later I realized that I had told him they were filming Man vs. Wild. It would've been an interesting location for it.
