Is there a confirmed date for when PS3 Netflix will go "disc-less?"

Hey all,

All sources seem to say late-October for when the PS3 will have an update for a Netflix app, so the Netflix disc won't be necessary.

Anyone know of any additional date details?

Thanks in advance,

Matt!

Right now it's just "fall" according to most of the rumors. If the theory that Microsoft had a 2-year exclusive agreement holds true, then we won't see it until mid-November. The service originally launched on the 360 on November 19, 2008.

New to the streaming thing and the disc seems to work well. So what is the advantage of discless? Just less wear on the system?

The fact you don't have to remove a game disc to watch a movie is the biggest plus IMHO. Not to mention several people have reported having problems w/ the PS3 Netflix disc. I have two of them and neither one works consistently.

"October" was the last I heard.

It was actually released in Canada about a week ago. I'm assuming this was to pilot the software before it's released in the US so I would think we'll see it in the next few weeks.

Sweet....

This will be nice. I was used to the app being built in to my Blu-Ray players, and using the PS3 disc was no big deal, but it will be nice to have one less disc to manage - especially if you use it often...

Can't wait,

Matt!

The PS3 is now "disc-less" in the US. I hadn't even heard the rumors about going disc-less, I just happened to notice the change on the menu under "Video." After a quick download, you can ditch the disc.

The new menu is great. I stream on multiple devices and the changes to the integrated design is better than any of the others that I have access to. The search function works better and more titles are displayed at once.

I got an e-mail from them about a week ago alerting me to the change. Wii is also disc-less now.

Thanks for the info, I was unaware the Wii also had gone disc-less. I'll have to check that out later.

I received an email from Netflix about the Wii going discless. Went to the shop channel and upgraded my Wii.

Wouldn't your nemesis be the person who has Cardiff Giant with the space in it? They are the one that forced you to add the 11 :P

Oh, it's you...

Seriously, though, I've always thought it was funny that there were other CardiffGiants on here.

EDIT: It felt like there was a joke I was missing; I found this thread (this is my first time seeing it) and I just wanted to say that it was, indeed, unintentional and I'm sorry for being the cause for changing your name.

Well, there's the 19th century hoax and then there is a hilarious series of outtakes on the Made DVD that involves Vince Vaughn claiming to be "The Cardiff Giant." I actually think the supplements are better than the film itself.

I'd probably like to be a bit more clever and say that it came from the former, but I started reading about the hoax only after I saw Made. I honestly don't know how famous the story of The Cardiff Giant is anymore.

To the "Original" Cardiff Giant: Does yours come from the Vaughn? I only ask because "you always double down on 11."

Indeed the name change does come from Made/Swingers hence the 11. Kudos for picking up on the reference! As I've mentioned I'm totally fine with sharing a similar user name and find it pretty funny but I do admit that every now and then I have to do a double take and think "wait I didn't post in this thread" and then I realize it's one of your posts

No worries though my friend, as long as you don't make any asinine posts we're good.
