Salt - 12/21/10

Looks like DVD Active's date of 12/7 was wrong. Per Blu-ray.com:

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Salt for Blu-ray release on December 21, in a Deluxe unrated edition. This spy/action thriller was initially penned with Tom Cruise in mind, but when the actor declined, it was rewritten to make Angelina Jolie the star. The bet paid off as Salt grossed nearly $118 million in theaters this summer. Three versions of the movie will be presented in the BD: theatrical, unrated and unrated extended.

-Spy Cam: Picture-in-Picture (BD-exclusive)

-Commentaries:
Filmmakers' commentary
Unrated filmmakers' commentary
Unrated extended filmmakers' commentary

-Featurettes:
The Ultimate Female Action Hero
The Real Agents (BD-exclusive)
Spy Disguise: The Looks of Evelyn Salt
The Modern Master of the Political Thriller: Phillip Noyce (BD-exclusive)
False Identity: Creating a New Reality (BD-exclusive)

-"The Treatment" Radio Interview with Phillip Noyce
-SALT: Declassified (BD-exclusive)
-movieIQ

Amazon also has a 12/21 pre-order up and a list price of $34.95.

Rental for me. Looks like an Aeon Flux-like clone, so it might just be enjoyable.

I enjoyed this. Wouldn't mind seeing it a second time (and unrated).

It's not at all in plot, but it has that same fun dumb tone about it. It's actually pretty decent.

If the price is right, I'll probably get this.

Gizmo, Kurt Wimmer also wrote the script for Ultraviolet, so it's interesting that this film reminds you of Aeon Flux.

I thought Salt was one of the fun action flicks this summer, so I'm in for this release. It had some pretty stupid moments near the end but the first 3/4 are damn effective big budget action filmmaking.

When I saw it, I told others that I considered it pretty much a "light" version of the Bourne movies. It's not as well put together story or direction wise, but it's still enjoyable.

I'd probably buy this when its ~$15.

re: Salt - 12/21/10

Artwork added. Amazon's preorder is up. Noticed the list price is only $34.99. I hope that's the new price point for Sony day & date titles.

However, I did check on Grown Ups and noticed the BD only set is $34.99, but the BD/DVD combo pack is $38.99. Maybe Salt will also get a combo pack.

Old date of 12/7 is wrong. New date is 12/21. I guess Sony doesn't want to compete with Inception.

Really trying to get over the 3 commentaries. Makes it seem like a Criterion release!

But really enjoyed this.

Im going to wager there aren't 3 different commentaries, but rather 1 commentary with appropriate differences between the 3 cuts of the film.

Still, that still does seem overkill.

Re: Salt - 12/21/10

Just watched this on the unrated cut and kept getting a clicking sound during a couple of the action scenes. Anyone else get some unusual sound effects?

Re: Salt - 12/21/10

No clicking on mine. I was very pleased with the extra violence and the slightly alternate ending in the extended director's cut. It really made the theatrical version come off as a made-for-TV movie.

Re: Salt - 12/21/10

We saw it theatrically then last night watched the BR on the unrated extended cut. Will need to watch the directors cut next. I'm thinking it's that disc because I watched Inception the night before and anothyer disc last night and didn't get any strange noises.

Could it have been the feature that tells you when extra footage was added? Nothing out of the ordinary with my viewing.

Anyone have a preference between the extended cut and the director's cut?
