I would like to fill my stands, but am unsure of what would work best or where to get it.

Using sand would be the cheapest choice since I live near the beach, but my stands are not sealed. I have called locally to find some lead shot to use as fill but have had no luck finding any.

Are there any places online that have decent prices for lead shot?

Are there any new technologies for filling stands that have come out recently? Yes it is doubtful, but possible! Thanks

For lead shot, contact stores that sell hunting accessories.

Be very careful when handling it.

If your stands aren't sealed, I'm not sure that you'll want to be using lead, even if you wrap it in plastic.

Shot or sand. Shot is easier to handle and easier to get rid of when you disassemble. Hunting stores are the best bet. I never bothered loading mine up since I have a 250lb tv, 80lb amp and 40 lbs of misc crap on mine.

You can seal these yourself or have a paint shop shoot 'em up for you.

Lead shot is acoustically dead, but "play sand" @ your local Home Depot is much less money and easy to drag home.

Is there any other type "shot" (steel or other metal) that would be safe around animals and kids and not cost a ton of money to use?

I have always used a combination of lead shot (picked up at hunting store) and sand. It has been a while, but if I remember, there were several sizes of shot. I would think you could get some large enough not to come out of even non-sealed stands.

In theory you want not only weight, but density.

Also you want stability. My stands that have very small spikes that punch thru the carpet and pad which set the stands on concrete (I have a slab). The spikes are small enough not to damage the carpet. But obviously this is not something you would do on nice wood floors.

Just seal them and use sand. It's all you need.

What about using gravel? You should be able to find clean white bags of gravel in the garden section of Home Depot ect.

I used sand in mine. Just use a thick trashbag, or a few trashbags. Play sand is, as jdb said, cheap from home depot. A few bucks buys you enough to fill your stands. White crushed quartz.

Another thing people do is use kitty litter. It's just clay. Works well.

Lead shot is great because of its density, but it's expensive, volume for volume.

I know that lead is more dense than sand, but I was wondering if there was another metal, safe to be around kids and pets, that had a similar density and sound neutral qualities. I will probably go with sand, anyone know where to get those sealed sand bags from?, as it is the safer of the "known" fillers.
