Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
American Todd Dempsy (Ben Rappaport) moves to India to head up a call center for a novelties company in the premiere of this comedy series. After meeting his eccentric employees, Todd realizes he has to teach them about American culture in order to help them sell the humorous products from the company's catalog.

This could either be a humongous disaster or a sleeper hit. It sucks that this is taking away Parks and Recreation's timeslot. I have to try this out of curiosity. Hope it doesn't rely too heavily on Indian stereotypes.

Judging by the promos it's actually more about white American stereotypes

Early reviews I've read said that it does.

I too liked the movie. But I hope the first couple of episodes are just not re-treads of the jokes in the movie.

What strikes me as odd is the way NBC changed its Thursday lineup. Last season it was Community, Parks And Recreation, The Office, 30 Rock and now it's Community, 30 Rock, The Office, Outsourced. I'm really going to miss Parks And Recreation until it's back on the air, but I wish they left 30 Rock where it was and put Outsourced in between Community and The Office. I can't stand 30 Rock and hate that I'll have to break up a viewing block; guess I'll check out Shit My Dad Says during that time.

I'll watch this, but I think it's going to be pretty bad.

Re: Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

It makes sense though as The Office is their highest rated comedy program. 30 Rock is, imo, still the best of the pack though Community is quickly climbing the ranks. Hopefully this will be good, but it seems very much 1 joke played a thousand times.

If we're going by last season, I'd rate them as:

Parks And Recreation > Community > The Office > _________ > 30 Rock

I've given the show a chance over and over again and just cannot stand it.

Can't please everyone, it's niche, a little too quirky and draws a moderate/small audience for a reason. But then again, I've never been able to stand Two and a Half Men and thats still one of the most popular shows on TV.

I hope you're right. I want more Parks And Recreation now.

The Office lead in seems like a natural fit to another show that is 'work' related.

I think a lot of people can relate to Indian call centers, but the proof will be in the pudding - The charachters have to be likable, the cast has to work well together and ultimately we will see once the ratings come out tomorrow morning if the they were able to hold on to the Office audience. If not P&R will be back.

I wouldn't be surprised. But hopefully the movie fans will be forgiving of it considering things like The Office pilot being almost identical to the UK pilot. I think it's to be expected. Where it goes beyond that point is what is important.

Parks & Rec was better than any of the other Thurs. night shows last year.

Close 2nd to Community for me, but they were both lightyears beyond the rut that Office and 30 Rock fell into, that's for sure. I had to watch them in reverse order as to not make the later shows seem even less funny.

I recall when NBC's The Office was on the cusp of airing and everyone here was already deeming it a failure. Then what happens? I'm predicting a similar outcome with this program.

The way I see it, this show can go one of two ways:

1.) The show relies solely on American and Indian stereotypes and other cheap sitcom cliches and is BAD.

or

2.) The show examines the workplace in a manner similar to The Office but without the documentary angle and simultaneously explores cultural differences and is GOOD.

I'm willing to bet in less than 20 minutes we see the former, not the latter, television show premiere.

The pilot will likely be a case of the former, but in the long run? No way they can sustain even half a season based only on stereotypes. I'm thinking it will be a case of the latter come a few eppies in, the question is, will people stick around that long.

Re: Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

Okay, so let's see...

We got jokes about cows, Indian food, bodily functions, Indian names, Sikhs, Muslims, Indians not dating, accents, mispronunciations, and the caste system.

And there's still 10 minutes left!

The only part I've found legitimately funny/clever so far was when the guy said "K as in Krishna, P as in Punjabi, and R as in Ramayana."

The dude dancing to that Chickpeas song was quite amusing. Still, slim pickens as yet with the laughs.

Hmm...I found the cast quite appealing, and I got some good laughs. I'll watch more episodes of this.

Re: Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

Garbage show from onset to conclusion. I will give it two to three more eppies before I drop it for good. All the amusing portions were found in the previews and ads leading up to the full pilot.
