Synopsis for "Pilot"

This is a special preview which will air after the season finale of America's Got Talent. It will re-air this Friday in case you miss it. It moves to it's regular timeslot on Friday's at 10pm starting next week for episode 2.
I will try this out, but there are alot of Law procedurals out there and better ones, but I think this is worth mentioning since Jimmy Smits is the lead. This will be the only thread for this show since I don't think this show will full of active plot lines to talk about. Plus, it's competing against Tom Selleck's new show Blue Bloods next week and I think that show will have more to talk about.

This is one of the few new series I'll be checking out. The (regular) timeslot makes it easy to pick up on the DVR.

One of the things I read during the upfronts in May when this got picked up was that it barely got ordered. NBC was actually considering Smits as the lead for Law and Order LA if this didn't get picked up. May be a silly premise, but I've been a fan of Smits since NYPD Blue and I even watched Cane a few years ago on CBS and that had a really silly soap opera premise. I anticipate this being low priority viewing if the Pilot clicks since the majority of other shows return next week.

Well I was looking forward to this show but that does sound incredibly stupid. I might still watch the pilot just because, but I don't have a good feeling about this. I like the idea from NBC from the above post about putting Smits in Law & Order: Los Angeles. I would rather have seen that.

I actually enjoyed Smits' work on L.A. Law and West Wing far more than his work on Blue (which I actually bailed on a few seasons after he started, and then returned after Ricky Schroeder left).

Really bad reviews from the NYC dailies, including the NY Post:
Smits' show a criminal offense in 1st degree
NBC's idiotic drama, "Outlaw," is so bad it should be listed as a Class A felony.
Jimmy Smits stars as -- I swear -- US Supreme Court Justice/degenerate gambler/womanizer Cyrus Garza, who decides spontaneously to leave the Supreme Court to take on cases where the little guy has been wronged.
He does this despite the fact that he's got no conscience.
Well, not much else on tonight, so I'll take a look - but it doesn't sound good at all.

A pretty farcical show. The whole procedural aspect of the death penalty case was completely fucked up, but I guess that's par for the course for tv legal dramas outside of Law & Order.
Given the lack of quality and the timeslot, I'm not expecting a long life for this one.

This one lost me when his assistant said something like "See, I'm not just hot." Who would say something like that? There was not a single character I cared about on the show. I actually started flipping over to PBS where they had a great documentary call "Latin Music USA" which I saw last year. The narrator was Jimmy Smits! One and done for me.

Stupid premise, shit execution. Carly Pope's character is downright irksome and she is not aging well at all. I don't expect it to last more than a month. That about sums it up.

In one of the previews for this show, there was a woman in a bra and panties standing across from Smits, and the exchange went something like this:
Woman: "It was hot in here so I had to take my clothes off"
Smits: "I guess I'll have to live with that"
I figured the show was in serious trouble from just that exchange. Guess I was right!

I didn't think it was very good, but it got over 10 million viewers. Probably people bored by repeats and it won't do as well next week.

Yikes...I still have the Pilot sitting on my DVR and the awful reviews aren't encouraging. I have more than enough stuff to watch and plenty of procedurals. If the Pilot sucks as hard as pretty much all of you say it is, then it's a goner from my schedule. Plus, it's on Friday's at 10pm and will probably get killed by Blue Bloods, which I am more looking forward to.
