The Game
Not sure if this belongs here or in the International section but I just noticed that DDDHouse has David Fincher's The Game on pre-order for 9/21 release.

Re: The Game
Odd. I know that a release is hitting from Universal in October over in the UK, which will likely be region-free, but I haven't caught wind of this one. Cover looks like the German version.

Re: The Game
If it's by Universal? I dunno....have they done that for films? I was under the impression that most Universal BDs were region free all the way including the features?

Re: The Game
This thread really got my hopes up ... this is one of the "Fincher classics" that I would love to get. I don't even have it on DVD for God's sake.

I've got the German import that came out last month. Haven't checked the extras.
It is region-free. It also looks identical to the HD DVD to me.
I like replacing my HD DVD's when possible since it's one less disc to worry about maintaining an extra player for, but for those who were looking for an upgrade, don't bother.

Well if there's already an existing thread we might as well use it. Great news... it isn't exactly an official confirmation but I'll take it. Really hoping we can complete our Fincher collection next yr with this and Panic Room. I always really liked this movie, I love the moral story of it... the prodigal son returning home, changing his ways. I never got why people felt like the ending was a cheat...that's the whole heart of the story for crying out loud...it would've been a cold, cruel movie otherwise.

Re: The Game
The ending is a cheat because it's far too convenient and coincidental that all the circumstances of the story up to that point could have led precisely to it, without even the slightest error. Even a miniscule deviation from the plan, and the whole thing would have fallen apart.

It could be I'm misremembering something from the film, as well, that dictates this is the only way it was supposed to happen.

Re: The Game
I certainly agree with you. But my interpretation led me to believe that they had various other "game facilitators" on standby for variations. Perhaps they didn't know the exact path he would take, and we are just seeing one set of variations played out. Of course, this would make the Game infinitely more expensive to put on.
Also, the game only had one ending. Douglas' character had to be in exactly the right spot at exactly the right time, and had to choose exactly that decision. What if he'd chosen to do something else? How could they be sure that he'd follow through?
I like the movie, but its logic doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
