Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

Amazon has the first one up for pre-order for $17.49. Part 2 isn't showing up yet. Per the Sony site, the first one will have all the DVD extras. Nothing listed for part 2, but I'm sure it'll have all the DVD extras as well.

It's about damn time. I've been waiting for the 2nd one to be released by itself.

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

What are the chances of them making a set of the 3 films w/ all the extras for all of them? I hate 3 BUT I like the 1st 1/3 or 1/4 of the film...whichever it is up to when Spidey has the symbiote on him and then is sucks. Before that though...it was a fine film. Once he gets emotional and all this bs...THAT'S when I hated it.

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

I almost bought the trilogy pack a few different times but always wound up passing due to the lack of extras on Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. It'd be nice if they re-released the trilogy set to include the new (I'm assuming they're new at least) discs for Spidey 1 and 2 as well as releasing them separately for people who don't want them all. Despite its flaws and being the worst of the trilogy I really don't hate Spider-Man 3 quite as much as everyone else seems to and would gladly pick them all up.

I picked these up at a closing blockbudster for $7.99. If they were new SE's with ALL the extras from the 3-disc version of Spidey 1 and the SE of Spidey 2 with the bonus disc of the VH1 special then i might upgrade

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

was expecting them to wait for the release of the reboot to put out a full SE version of the first two films.

This may yet just be the movie only disc released independent of the boxset.

If they are, I may just keep waiting for the full package- unless I can find SM2 for under $15. I'll probably bite then and just keep the DVD for all the extras (that I never watch anyway).

I've been unmotivated to buy the box because I feel like these films haven't held up well. The chance to buy them a la carte might not sway me either.

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

I bought the box set a long time ago, because I:

a) actually happen to like Spider-Man 3

b) don't care about the extras, which I still have on DVD and haven't watched since those were originally released.

As good as the extras are for those two films, I've never had any desire to watch them more than the one time when they came out.

Good, now I can pick up a used copy of #3 for $5 at snag Spider-Man 2 when it comes out. I'll probably pass on #1 unless the transfer is fixed, as the current version is barely above DVD level.

I wonder if that rumor when Spidey 3 came out is ever gonna come true, with fully loaded special editions of Spider-Man 1 & 2 with all features released on dvd as well as BonusView tracks. Probably not

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

Besides the bonus disc with that VH1 special, there were Superbit DVD releases of both films, one of which had an exclusive Toby Maguire audio commentary. This was considered weird at the time, since Sony had until then only used disc space for video with high bitrate, and DD and dts tracks. Nothing else.

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

I'm glad to hear they are doing this. However, will these have anything new on them? Or is this a release simply with all the bonus materials they failed to port over the first time? If it's a case of re-using the old material I will stick to my current plan, which is to eventually buy three disc cases and the original DVD releases (which I sold, unfortunately) and make my own complete set that way for the first two films.

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

I'm glad this is finally happening. I don't care about special features, since I have the DVDs just want the HD picture and sound. However, when the box set first came out 3 years ago I DID care about special features which is why I only bought part 3. If it were released today I would buy it.

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

I have the Superbit releases of both as well. Never did listen to that commentary track, though.

I found the image on the Superbit Spider-Man 2 a bit off, because it looked like there was a lot of aliasing, especially in the opening credits, easy to see because of all the lines and sharp angles.

Wow, figured we wouldn't see these until the Spidey reboot was in theaters. Good news!

Re: Spider-man 1 & 2 Individual Releases - November 16, 2010

It's pretty safe to bet that Spider-Man will have a new transfer if it has all the extras this time, but then again, studios can be pretty stupid sometimes.

If the transfers are good and both have all extras then I'll hock my DVDs and get them, as well as picking up 3 from a pawnshop.

Among the listed features is "Commentary with Tobey Maguire & JK Simmons", so it looks like that one's covered. I never even knew the Superbit had it's own commentary! When I noticed that commentary in the list, I thought it was a new feature for the BD.

Sony is releasing catalog again? Woah! Oh, wait, re-releases, so it doesn't really count

They should have just sold the rights to Criterion.

Sony's site says SM2 is 136m which is essentially the runtime for 2.1.

I hope the disc has both 2 and 2.1.

Looks like at least I'll be replacing my Spidey 1 BR from that box set. We'll see if Spidey 2 gets replaced.

Th original BD release did, so it would be extremely odd for them to not have both on there this time around....why add all the extras that weren't on it the first time, but take away the original theatrical cut?
