OK, I guess I'll be the first to write about this one.
First, a caveat: I'm a huge, huge Elizabeth Gilbert fan. I've been reading her work since the days when she was a contributor for SPIN. I've got the first edition of her short-story collection from 1997. And I, well, sort-of liked Eat Pray Love. It was like a longer version of Michael Crichton's Travels, but without child prostitutes or peyote.
And I'm not really a fan of Julia Roberts. She just doesn't do anything for me.
And neither does the movie. In the book, Gilbert portrays herself as crazed, but human. The movie erases the second part, and turns Gilbert into every man's stereotype of a woman who lacks reason and accountability. Richard Jenkin's character is the closest we get to someone who is not a stereotype. Even Bardem is underused.
A disappointment, but one that I can say I expected.

^ the movie did nothing for me either. must be me, but I don't find Javier attractive in the slightest, he just comes across as 'creepy'
