Re: ONE AND ONLY Directors Poll: David Cronenberg/David Lynch

Cronenberg, my reasoning can be found in the Cronenberg vs. Carpenter thread, not that anybody cares enough about my opinion to track it down; I'm equally lazy about my desire to copy and paste it. So in conclusion, GOOOOO CRONENBERG!!

Re: ONE AND ONLY Directors Poll: David Cronenberg/David Lynch

I love both of these directors, but nothing Cronenberg has done has connected with me as much as Mulholland Drive by Lynch.

Re: ONE AND ONLY Directors Poll: David Cronenberg/David Lynch

Two great directors. I have to go with Lynch for no other reason than he directed Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet.

Cronenberg is just fantastic with films like Videodrome, The Brood and Dead Ringers on his resume.

I actually created a similar poll with these very two directors at another site.

Cronenberg: THE FLY and DEAD ZONE
Lynch: BLUE VELVET and TWIN PEAKS

Lynch gets my vote.

Re: ONE AND ONLY Directors Poll: David Cronenberg/David Lynch

David Lynch, and I really like Cronenberg too. Lynch tends to be far more unsettling and connecting on a deeper instinctual level. I also love Lynch's sense of humor.

Question: are you guys taking Lynch's "Twin Peaks" into account, or are we concentrating on films alone?

Two of my favorites, but I consider Lynch's work to be true film art and believe it will be studied and appreciated for generations.

And also, Suprmallet's lazy cut-and-paste IMDB filmographies make me angry.

yeah, me too. Sorry, 'mallet but it's true.

anywhoooo....Cronenberg for me. Never did get into Lynch, great director? Yeah, sure...but so's Cronenberg...DC's films in fact...almost seem real even w/ the crazy shit going on. He just has that quality that for some reason...I can believe that this is a real world.

Lynch. Blue Velvet, Elephant Man, Straight Story, Mulholland Dr. He has greater range, and can make good movies outside of his own obsessions. I like Cronenberg a lot, but he's trapped by his obsessions, and is forced to make good movies within their walls.

You can just list the films without all that IMDB crap. Copy and paste from Wikipedia? IMDB just has all that nonsense added on. Just copy from Wikipedia...has the films and the year. Lot more simple and cleaner.

Re: ONE AND ONLY Directors Poll: David Cronenberg/David Lynch

Here's how I'd rank the Lynch and Cronenberg movies I've seen:
  1. Mulholland Dr. (2001)
  2. Videodrome (1983)
  3. Blue Velvet (1986)
  4. Eraserhead (1976)
  5. The Fly (1986)
  6. Naked Lunch (1991)
  7. Eastern Promises (2007)
  8. Dune (1984)
  9. A History of Violence (2005)
  10. The Dead Zone (1983)
  11. The Elephant Man (1980)
  12. Lost Highway (1997)
The top four films are masterpieces. Overall it's a virtual dead heat. I have to give a slight edge to Lynch, on the basis of MULHOLLAND DR. alone.

Re: ONE AND ONLY Directors Poll: David Cronenberg/David Lynch

Lynch. He's my 2nd favourite director, and Cronenberg is my 3rd.

However, I like more Cronenberg movies than Lynch movies (I've seen all Lynch's, but not all of Cronenberg's). I like Lynch's style more though. And the only 3 movies that have ever scared me were all his.
