DirecTV and AMC HD

For those who follow DirecTV on twitter. Latest tweet:

"We continue to have discussions with the owner of AMC but a launch date has not been determined."

Re: DirecTV and AMC HD

DTV has gone this far....they'll wait until the end of the Mad Men season before they put it on (probably banking on a cheaper subscriber rate than they would have paid a month ago).

Re: DirecTV and AMC HD

I know all the Direct Tv people on the board want AMC HD for Mad Men and Breaking Bad. But they have a horrible habit of stretching their movies, instead of actually being shown in HD.

DISH Network Adds AMC HD to Industry-Leading HD Lineup

First and Only Satellite TV Company to Offer AMC HD

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DISH Network today announced the launch of AMC HD – becoming the first and only satellite TV provider in America to offer this channel to customers.

AMC reigns as the only network in television history to ever win three consecutive Golden Globe awards for best dramatic series and the only basic cable network to win back-to-back Primetime Emmy awards for outstanding drama series. In addition to a diverse blend of critically-acclaimed original programming, AMC offers the most comprehensive library of popular films from every genre and decade.

"DISH Network continues to lead the way in offering the best collection of HD channels in the nation, and we are excited to now bring our customers the award-winning drama Mad Men in high definition on AMC HD," said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network.

"We're delighted that DISH subscribers can now watch their favorite films as well as AMC's critically-acclaimed original series, including Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Rubicon, all in HD," said AMC's President Charlie Collier. "DISH Network has a strong HD offering and we're excited to be joining their lineup."

AMC HD is located on DISH Network Ch. 130 and is available free to customers who subscribe to America's Top 200 and above, as well as DishLATINO DOS with HD and higher.

The leader in high definition programming, DISH Network offers the most national HD channels as well as local channels in high definition in 170 markets – more than any other TV company in America. For more information on DISH Network's HD programming as well as HD Free for Life, visit www.dish.com.
Glad I'll be able to catch the remaining MM episodes in HD.

I'm making the (long overdue) switch from cable to Directv next week. The only thing I am bummed about is that this Sunday will be the last HD episode of Mad Men for awhile (likely this season). Like sporting events, Christina Hendricks was made for HD viewing.

Re: DirecTV and AMC HD

Just a bump up. Someone from DBSTalk (who is very in the know) indicated this should be coming to DirecTV by Labor Day. God, I hope that's true.

So we might get the last few episodes of Breaking Bad in HD. At least it is in time for Walking Dead.

It's about time. I was going to switch to Dish if I had to watch another season of Walking Dead in SD blur-o-vision.

No shit.

I'm pretty sure it's been over 2 years since it was first rumored.

Not that I care outside of 4 days in March, but I noticed they still haven't added tru-TV HD despite that agreement supposedly being made.

I don't disagree, but if you see who posted the info over there, you'll know it's legit.

Apparently, they said it would take up to 18 months for implementation once Tru went to HD. I believe it's only been about a year or so since they made that switch (might be off on that), so it may be a bit longer until we see that in HD on DirecTV.

AMC in HD would be a very welcome addition. I'm still dying for Turner Classic in HD as well.

Never watched an episode of Breaking Bad or Mad Men, so what I'm hoping this leads to is after AMC goes to HD those shows eventually get added to the OnDemand in HD, at which point I would watch them both. Same thing happened with Dexter which I never watched until after season 4, but then watched them through OnDemand over a couple of weeks.

Now if they can just get BBCA in HD, that would complete my priority wants.

Re: DirecTV and AMC HD

To this point I wanted 2 stations in HD

AMC and BBC, but now they've added Universal Sports, so I also want that in HD..

So I was at 2, went to 3, then back to 2.

I'm 99% satisfied. Esp as there I only watch Mad Men on AMC, and don't watch BBCA, but want it.

I choose not to watch shows on those channels.

Yeah, I don't currently watch AMC, but the main reason is I have enough to keep me happy in HD without it. As soon as it is in HD, a few AMC programs will make the rotation and force some lesser ones out that only make the cut now because they are already in HD.

Re: DirecTV and AMC HD

Assuming we'll have truTV in HD again for March Madness, my top-3 wish list is AMC-HD, BBCA-HD, and HRTV.

Re: DirecTV and AMC HD

In addition to The Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels, the new Western, premieres in early November.

If I could see both of them in HD before the year is over, that would be fantastic.
