Noticed this was on sale this week at Best Buy, wondered if anyone was going to pick it up. I've been playing it for review and it's insanely long. It's a nice return to the Wing Commander / Colony Wars genre, but it's also a PC port of a 2006 game that can be had for $10 on Steam.

It's long, that is true - but it's really similar as you keep on going. Only a couple missions in, and its repetitive.

Re: Darkstar One: Broken Alliance (Xbox 360)
Anybody else give this a shot? I picked it up last week at Gamestop during the B2G1 sale (it is a sub $20 game now). I wasn't expecting much (it was a filler to go along with Fallout New Vegas and Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY), but was pleasantly suprised. I never played Freelancer (vaguely remember Starlancer on the Dreamcast) but the game reminds me of one of my favorites from the 90's...Wing Commander: Privateer.
A lot of repetitive mission types (i.e. escort cargo ships, attack pirates, etc.) with commodity trading and RPG elements (ship upgrades) thrown in and pretty decent visuals (voice acting and character models, not so much)
Like I said, it can be had for cheap (~$16 on Amazon), so if you were a fan of the Privateer/Freelancer space combat genre, you may want to give it a shot.

Re: Darkstar One: Broken Alliance (Xbox 360)
I got this recently from Goozex and gave it a whirl for a few minutes. I'm a big space combat fan and I liked (but never completely finished) the PC version, so I am looking forward to running through this. The combat seems a little easier than on PC, but that's sort of a secondary mechanic to exploring, trading and upgrading your ship anyway.
