Tempting. I know I own the smaller film-only set, so all I'm missing is the cartoons, right? Hmmmm.....

Pretty sure it is by far. Can't use camelcamelcamel.com here at work, but you can check there.

Damn. I would have loved to have gotten this deal, even though I already own everything on it.

Turned out that I also owned the Cartoon Collection, but I still bought it.

If I read everything correctly, there was still a good amount of new content for me.
  • Two or three of the later films are in this set and not in the older set I have.
  • Three discs of cartoons here are not in the "Complete" cartoon collection.
  • The first movie has some new extras.

Amazon's listing shows the films being in 1.33:1 / pan and scan. Anyone know if that is accurate, or are the features in their proper widescreen formats?

Everything is presented in it's correct aspect ratio.

Love that line, but just to be safe...

I'm sure no one is checking the thread thinking it is still on. Thread title, lightning deal at 10am, pretty much tells everyone to stay out if they didn't already get in on it.

Anyone check the price history on it yet?

Wow, it was 39.99? I might have jumped on it even though I also have the smaller set and some of the cartoons. And I have Return so I don't need to complain about that not being in the set.

I would've jumped on this, but unfortunately I cannot be using the computer and checking not-advertised-in-advance Amazon lightning deals or Slickdeals every hour all day long because sometimes I have to leave the house or go to work. I still have my original Pink Panther set (unopened) that I bought from Costco which I should be able to return (assuming I can find the receipt and it isn't faded) if I ever got the Ultimate set for a reasonable price. Sadly, knowing Amazon's past price history, this one is unlikely to be $39.99 again, and if they do it would probably be another Lightning deal I'd miss because I can't monitor them constantly.

I ended up picking this up yesterday. I’ve never seen any of the original movies (only the remake) and loved the cartoons as a kid. Can’t wait to dive into this when it arrives.

You can get the lightning deals via email and/or text messages.

I didn't know that. Can you tailor it to just send lightning deals for DVDs, BDs, and PS3/X360 games? I'd have to subscribe with my work email address to have a chance of seeing the deals during the day. If they don't let you tailor the email alerts, I'd probably be getting an email every hour and my work might not like that.

I don't think so, but you could play around with your Amazon settings and see.

No smart phone? No access to personal email? And work would really be upset over 6 emails a day?

Re: AMAZON Lightening Deal 7/25/2010 10am PDT -- Pink Panthter Ultimate Collection 39

Wow, this thread was a bitch to find. First two words I searched for are both misspelled in the thread title.

But anyway, just some follow-up on this now dead deal. Received my package today, and compared the contents to the separate film and cartoon collections that I already owned.

The 5 disc earlier cartoon collection has the same 5 discs as this ultimate collection. So I didn't lose anything, and gained 4 new discs of cartoons.

The earlier 5 film collection does have some content not carried over into this new collection. It's just one disc, the bonus disc, which contains a nice little documentary, The Pink Panther Story, on the live action series; and another nice little documentary on the animated series. I'll just keep that disc and gift the 5 films away. The first film is the same in both collections, doesn't include the apparently new version with new extras.

So overall I think it was a nice purchase for $40. 4 new-to-me films, 4 new-to-me cartoon discs, and a very nice coffee table book on the series.

Sorry We should have asked a mod to amend the thread title last week.

I just thought an update on the contents would benefit anyone considering it the next time it goes on sale.

We've got to give credit to That'sAllFolks for putting the date in the thread title. Now the spelling, as Trevor alluded to, could use a little work...

To be fair one was a misspelling and the other a slip of the keyboard.
