Mad Men -- Season 4 Premiere -- "Public Relations" -- 07/25/10

Mad Men Season 4

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the Season 4 opener, Don's reluctance to talk about himself jettisons a prestigious trade-paper interview that the company was hoping would be a boon to business. Meanwhile, the "wholesome" manufacturer of two-piece swimsuits wants to hire the firm but doesn't want a sexy ad campaign; Pete and Peggy stage a stunt in an effort to secure more money from a meat-company client; and Roger plays Cupid for Don.

13 episode 4th season

Jared Harris, who plays Lane Price, is now a fulltime series regular.

Unfortunately for those who are cable-less, the show does not legally stream online.

Looking forward to season 4.

Quick question, need my memory refreshed - what was Cooper's stance on/role in the creation of the new firm?

pissed I have to go another season in standard def, thanks directv.

my question is, how could you get away creating a company called Sterling/Cooper/Draper/and Pryce when Sterling/Cooper is owned by someone else, and is in the exam same field?

Well, Sterling Cooper is just being absorbed into a bigger agency now anyway. I thought the new company should have been called Cooper, Sterling, Draper and Price since Bert is the most senior partner in the new company. Besides, the bigger legal issue is Price "firing" Cooper, Sterling and Draper while an emplyee of PPL and then immediately joining up with them.

I loved that last finale and have been careful not to read a single thing about this new season. First time I'm watching the show in "real time" instead of on BR. Can't wait.

Another refresher needed : Which ad men got left behind besides Kinsey?

Ken and the two young (and gay?) guys. And Sal, of course, is still left in the cold.

I forgot about Ken getting left out. Poor guy. He's in that picture so I guess he figures into things pretty quickly. Curious to see what they do about Sal, though.

I love Bert having his shoes off in the picture.

I'm a bit hazy on that, as well. As best I can recall, he basically had an "I'm too old for this shit" reaction to the idea of starting a new firm. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Given her prominance in the third season finale, I'm a little surprised that Alison Brie hasn't made the cast photo yet. I think the appearance of Coswell in the photo would probably be a mild spoiler, but I don't really care.

Hopefully, Pete realizes that he can't live w/o Hildy as his secretary.

Cosgrove.

And re: Trudy, I don't think she should be in the cast photo. She really hasn't had as much screen time as Sally Draper over the years and you wouldn't want her in the photo, right?

Yeah, Cosgrove. It may not be a spoiler, though, depending on how the season plays out. They could show the two agencies warring against each other for clients.

That's what I was thinking. There has to be a reason the writers left Cosgrove behind, though if I were in Draper's place I'd take Ken over Pete any day of the week.

The decision to bring a tractor into the office - a tractor that subsequently maimed a coworker - might have diminished Ken's perceived value.

Re: Mad Men -- Season 4 Premiere -- "Public Relations" -- 07/25/10

I think Cosgrove (yeah...yeah..oops) going to the new agency would make sense; he was always good at his job. I don't think he's a big/interesting enough character to be the face of feuding agencies (if they were going to go that route it would have to be Pete), but I guess we'll see. Kurt and Smitty might very well be at the new agency. They aren't important enough to be in the cast photo. It also make sense for Kinsey to be left behind.

It just seeemed as if Trudy was becoming more a part of the show at the end of the year. I get the Sally Draper point, but she's a child actress on an adult show. Given that Betty has to have some storyline this year, I imagine that Sally will be playing a major part in that.

FYI, Alison Brie is a fulltime series regular on Community and can't work on Mad Men fulltime hence that's why you don't see Trudy in the cast photo. Plus, she's also filming Scream 4 as well this summer.

Yeah this isn't fact. Her boyfriend was an actor named David Sullivan, who she apparently just broke up with last month.

I too have been able to avoid spoilers. All the magazines that we received last week had articles about the premiere, and I didn't read anything. Same online. I just know that it's going to kick some ass.

Three minutes in and we already have a Roger Sterling gem:

"A wooden leg. They're so cheap, they can't afford a whole reporter."
