I may be the only person who found the original a chore. I started a playthrough a month ago, made it about four and a half hours in and haven't touched it since.

The first one was great, as was the expansion.

I certainly hope the graphics are a big improvement over the first one.

Agreed. For me personally, I would've liked it abit more if they made it very clear as to which mission effected story progression versus what were menial side missions. I do understand the games appeal though, it just wasn't for me.

That didn't bother me too much.

In fact, I think I am gonna do another run through with a different race/class.

I thought so too, until I just gave up and set it to casual to just enjoy the game and story. I thought even medium was just too hard and tedious.

Re: Dragon Age Origins 2 for 2011

I loved the first game. It was definately a spiritual successor to the old Baldur's Gate games. I thought it was the best RPG I've played in years. I've put in 83 hours into the game according to Steam.

I'll wait until they release more info on DA2, but so far I'm not sure I like what they are saying so far.

http://pc.ign.com/articles/110/1104698p1.html

From IGN
As detailed on the game's official website, players will assume the role of a new lead character, Hawke, a survivor of the Blight and a refugee who "rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age."
I want to carry over my character from DA:O, but it doesn't sound like I will be able to do that. It also sounds like they are also making changes to the combat. Again, I'll have to wait until they release more info, but I thought the combat in DA:O was great. It felt like playing the old Baldur's Gate games.

Yes, the PC version was great at least, as the game was actually designed for PCs. The console version was an afterthought that wouldn't have even happened if EA hadn't acquired Bioware. The PC version had vastly superior gameplay and graphics and was the best game Bioware has made since Baldur's Gate 2 way back in 2001.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

From Joystiq:

Saying that Dragon Age 2 has better graphics than its predecessor isn't much of a compliment. Though Dragon Age: Origins remains one of our favorite games from 2009 (as a matter of fact, it was our #4 pick!), on consoles, it looked like the game's entire texture library was secretly replaced with macro photographs of roadkill.

It was just on sale twice, recently. Once during the EA week sales, and then again during the Summer sale. I finally picked up Awakenings during the summer sale. When I started it though, I found out none of my dlc armor or weapons transfers to it, so that's lame. Hopefully I can get some armor soon, so my dude doesn't have to keep walking around naked.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

Kotaku has some info from Game Informer.

http://kotaku.com/5585473/dragon-age...ects-footsteps

The PC is keeping the same combat system from the first, while the consoles are getting a new system. You can carry over your save, which will affect the world in the sequel. They are going the Mass Effect route for the dialogue this time.

I play on the PC, and like the more strategic combat, so I'm happy I'll still be able to play that way. I'd still rather play as my own character though.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

I like the change of having a named character. It works better storywise and in gameplay. I don't really care for losing the dialog tree though.

Hopefully the combat changes mean this one won't be quite so difficult so I feel like a moron for playing on casual.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

Well I have had the pc version for a long time and only played about an hour of it. Now that I am finished with Mass Effect 2 I will give it a shot. The trailer for the sequel was pretty sweet though.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

Heads up that you have to order this by January 11th if you want the Bioware Signature Edition.

Which gives you the full version of Dragon Age 2 plus download codes for a bonus mission and character, a downloadable game soundtrack, an exclusive in-game digital armory featuring multiple weapons, as well as additional downloadable items

720p version

They really seem to have nailed both playstyles. Can't wait for my copy to arrive.

Re: Dragon Age 2 for 2011

Is it wrong that my first week of vacation I signed up for this year just happens to correspond with this release?
