James Bond 007: Goldeneye for the Wii (Nov 2, 2010)
I completely missed this during the E3 coverage. I happened to see the listing on Amazon when I was browsing upcoming releases. It looks like an upgraded version of the N64 version with a few improvements. (insert tired Wii graphics quip here.) Still, I didn't see a thread for this. Surely the Goldeneye bloodlust hasn't dwindled to the point that this release can be entirely overlooked.
Say what you will about Goldeneye being dated or fonder in my memories... but I'm excited just to play it again. I really wish it wasn't a Wii exclusive. This might kill the multiplayer for me unless we can rustle up a group on DVDTalk. Maybe the Warhawk Tuesday/PS3 New Hype Wednesday/Warmonger Thursday/Cheap Ass Rotation Friday crew wants to jump platforms for a little while in November...

If there's one game that will make me buy a Wii, it's this. I loved Goldeneye on the N64 and hope this one is just as fun.

Is this being made by former Rare developers? Or anything that would get my hopes up for it being anything more than a typical Bond shooter that happens to look identical to the best one?

It's not the best case development scenario, but it's not all gloom and doom. Eurocom developed Dead Space: Extraction for the Wii (along with the other meh Bond games and bunch of crap movie tie-ins). I have faith that because they're re-developing an existing title and know how to make a decent Wii shooter that they'll put together a solid game.
From the kotaku article:

From the kotaku article:
The James Bond game is being developed by Eurocom and Activision, not Rare and Nintendo, the companies that made the original Nintendo 64 GoldenEye. That's not a surprise and not necessarily a problem. Eurocom can make a good game.
It is a first-person shooter, based on the fiction of the 1995 Pierce Brosnan movie. But the story of that movie has been changed. GoldenEye is now the adventure of the Daniel Craig version of James Bond and plays up an international banking crisis angle rather than a Cold War problem. Both games, however, send the player, as Bond, around the world to locations important to fans of movie and games: A dam, a statue park, the streets of St. Petersburg, where a chase involving a military tank will occur.
blah blah blah
GoldenEye will be out exclusively for the Wii in November. It was fun, but for better and worse it is not a slavish remake of the original GoldenEye. They are doing the reinvented-for-modern-times thing. Let's hope that is the right thing. The re-imagined dam level had enough callbacks to the original game to make me smile and just enough high-action set-pieces to remind me that we are not in a 90s video game world anymore.
Be optimistic about this one, but pay attention to the pitch.

I always forget that Metroid Prime qualifies as a FPS. I don't know why.
Either way, I choose to be excited about the Goldeneye potential until proven otherwise.

Its not like we can tell which group is your favorite
Goldeneye was one of the funnest games I remember to get togethter with friends and goof off with. I will have to pay attention to reviews and reactions. This may push me to consider a Wii for the house - for the kids of course.

New Hype tomorrow: RDR. See chess on a donkey! Worth the price of admission right there!
As to this game, I've always heard great things and would love to do some multiplayer. I'll have to check out the video from home to see whether I can handle the camera.

Chew, I'm not sure you're going to be able to see much in the video. The gameplay glimpses are pretty quick... but I imagine we'll get some videos with some extended gameplay footage by the time November rolls around.

FWIW, Eurocom developed Nightfire which was one of the better EA Bond games and was actually a decent game with pretty fun multiplayer. I think this will be good but with story changes and a different developer and publisher, I think people looking for the second coming of the N64 Goldeneye may be a bit let down.

Day 1 buy. Eurocom did an awesome job with TWINE and Nightfire. I also loved QoS and all I had to see was sights and I was sold.

Eh, I have Perfect Dark on X360, so I have the refined Goldeneye multiplayer experience already. As far as Bond games go, Quantum of Solace was pretty underrated and is still loads of fun to play.
This won't be pushing me to a Wii.

I agree on Quantum of Solace being really underrated, then again I'm a huge Casino Royale fan so the fact that a good chunk of the single player game takes place in levels from that movie helps. The multiplayer is pretty fun too. It feels a bit slower than the usual COD4/MW2 multiplayer which I like.
I'm also betting that Goldeneye Wii will eventually make its way to the Xbox and PS3 since it's being put out by Activision. Remember all those other exclusive 3rd party titles for either the 360 or PS3 and how so many of them eventually made it to the other? Since this is a Wii game I'm a little bit less sure but it's still very likely after a few months especially if it sells well.

Wow this might be the third game I pick up for my Wii . Goldeneye was for me like many, many others a staple game back in the N64 days. My cousin and brother and I used to play multiplayer for nonstop hours. I don't even know why I've kept the Wii around as long as I have as I only have bought two games for it and like two or three games from the virtual console. I too agree that the Quantum of Solace game is pretty underrated. I had a lot of fun with it when I rented it.
