Small Faces/ The Faces

Any Small Faces/Faces fans out there? Wondering too if anyone prefers the small faces over the faces? I'm guessing it would be in favor of the Rod Stewart led band but I think the original band was totally superior. Then again they're both pretty different so I can't compare them.

I haven't really heard the Small Faces but I love The Faces. The lineup of Ron, Ronnie, Rod, Ian and Kenney is just fantastic.

Itchycoo Park is only Small Faces I've ever heard. I have everything ever released by The Faces and love them. Do not have the live album "Coast To Coast" unless it's incorporated into the Rhino set.

Small Faces' Ogden's Nut Gone Flake is one of my favorite albums of all time, as is The Faces' First Step. It's weird - they're similar bands in some sense, but still very different.

This dvd that was recently released is pretty good- it has almost all small faces footage out there plus interviews with all the band members including Jimmy Winston

Re: Small Faces/ The Faces

I like them both about equally.. but if I had to I'd give the edge to Small Faces. It's too bad the Faces tour thing never came to fruition this year like rumored.

WIth Mick Hucknall? Glad it didn't happen. It would just be another Doors of the 21st Century fiasco.

If I'm not mistaken they are supposed to play dates early next year.

I was hesitant about Hucknall when I first heard the news but after going back and sampling some Simply Red I think he'd be perfect. I think his gruff voice will fit in pretty well and be a good substitute for Rod who I honestly don't think handle it anymore. I'm pretty sure that Rod can't sing rock 'n' roll like he used to. That's why he's been doing that American Songbook bullshit for so long now.

Re: Small Faces/ The Faces

I like both. Personally, Rod Stewart's first three solo records are the best things he ever did, though. I know he was a tax exile, but he never should have left England. He lost his mind in LA.

Truth, and speaking of "truth", the two albums he did with Jeff Beck before he went solo were pretty great too, and his 4th solo album wasn't too bad either.

The Faces without Rod is like the Stones without Mick. Hucknall may be able to sing well but it's just a karaoke show without Rod.

Re: Small Faces/ The Faces

Rod sucks now though- the faces are best left for the past especially without Ronnie Lane.

Re: Small Faces/ The Faces

I definitely like The Faces style but one of my favorite singers, Steve Marriott, was in the Small Faces and then on to Humble Pie.

That would be correct.

I like The Faces. I love The Small Faces.

My ten favorite Small Faces tunes:
  1. Tin Soldier
  2. Song of a Baker
  3. All or Nothing
  4. Sha La La La Lee
  5. Afterglow of Your Love
  6. E too D
  7. Rene
  8. Here Come the Nice
  9. Lazy Sunday
  10. I Can't Make It

FWIW, I used to be in a band that covered "Itchycoo Park" and "All or Nothing".

I always thought "Hey Girl" could be a nifty rockabilly song. ;=)
