Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Reviews Thread
What, no Twi-hards around here at DVDTalk?
I don't know how to do the usual fancy-schmancy first post in a reviews thread.
Seeing it tonight with my wife and sister.

My wife and stepdaughter watched it last night and loved it. My wife said it was the closest to the book of the three movies.

Also saw it last night. Enjoyed it but the big fight scene was hard to follow. I'll have to wait until DVD to slomo thru it. Unlike the first movie , they kept it pretty close to the book.
Any fault I have with the movie is with the actors *coughkristencough*. Robert did a wonderful job , most of the time and Taylor was bearable.
Somebody needs to explain to Kristen that when she is doing a scene with a guy that looking at his chin or chest will not look good. She needs to look at his face a little more. I noticed that a lot when she did scenes with wolf boy. Very distracting.

Probably will go see this in the next week or so.
Really interesting in seeing David Slade's take on the franchise.

The wife and I caught it this morning. By no means am I a big fan of the franchise, but this was a pretty solid movie. It had enough of the romance stuff to keep the ladies happy and enough action to keep me from falling asleep during it. The fight scenes were well done but like draven31said above, a bit hard to follow. It didn't help that most of the newborn vamps and the wolves weren't all that distinct looking. Coolest shot of the movie was the newborns walking out of the water. Very striking visual.

I caught it today. Around the first time they showed Jacob shirtless, the estrogen level spiked in the room from all the sad middle aged women, and I started to have an allergic reaction, but luckily I had my EpiPen with me, so I made it through.
The actual vampire/werewolf action and the mythology (both vampire and werewolf) is juuuuust interesting enough to make me keep coming back for these. If you gave me the first three movies to edit, I could crop 75% of the romance/love triangle nonsense out and make a single awesome movie that guys would actually like and girls would hate. Some of the fighting is just really well done, and I completely dig the brutality of having vampires that have to be torn limb from limb.
Kristen is terrible. She was decent in Adventureland, but I haven't really liked her in anything else. She's the female equivalent of the nerdy male lead in most coming of age teen comedies, where you have somebody who by no rights should even get a second glance suddenly and inexplicably matched with somebody (or in this case, somebodies) way out of their league (see: every Michael Cera movie ever).

Re: Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Reviews Thread
Saw it last night - basically it felt like it was the worst parts of Twilight mixed with the best parts of New Moon. I thought the visual style was kind of a step back from the last picture (which I thought had very decent cinematography, much better than the first). I felt there was lots of stuff set up that wasn't paid off or particularly interesting, added with some stuff that they made seem a lot more complex/interesting than it actually was - but for the most part I was entertained. The final battle has enough action to overpower the cheese dialogue that has you cringing at parts. I'd say it's probably the best of the series but just by a hair.
I'm not a Twi-hard by any means (never read the books) but for what they are, the movie series has been pretty decent, so if you're a fan you won't be disappointed. 3.5/5

Re: Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Reviews Thread
Saw it at a screening in Houston a few nights ago.
From my review:
"Though compared to her male counterparts, Bella is the most insolent when it comes to love. Jacob may preen around without a shirt on, but he’s a protector of the purist kind – and warm to the touch – and Edward is the one who shies away from Bella’s coitus advances, preferring to wait after they are married. Is this to imply that chivalry is undead? "

i'm not good at writing reviews, but i loved the movie.
i don't mind the girls screaming every time Jacob appears on screen, i find myself amused by the comments of all the ladies towards the Twilight guys....
example:
Bella: Let's have sex!!
Edward: No! I have to wait til we get married
this one lady: JACOB WOULD!!
and i don't find Kristen's acting bad at all, it fits with her character.

I liked it a lot better than the previous two. I guess because in this one, something's actually happening. There's a threat coming, and we have to prepare for it. And sprinkle some sappy, lovey-dovey stuff in between. It wasn't like the last one where the whole movie was Bella going emo over Edward leaving and you can tell the author suddenly thought of doing a location change at the end.
I like that they made Victoria's puppet a Forks local. It made sense. But at the same time, I didn't see the value in changing the actress for Victoria.
Best line addition that got cheers from my audience: (Jacob to Edward) "Face it, I'm hotter than you."
I kinda wish they had kept the endling like the book, where the storytelling POV changes from Bella to Jacob, but I guess they didn't want to take away from the Robsten shot.
