Jenny and Johnny (aka Jenny Lewis & Jonathan Rice) - I'm Having Fun Now
Jenny Lewis and Jonathan Rice, under the moniker "Jenny and Johnny", have a new album coming out, entitled "I'm Having Fun Now".
There doesn't seem to be any info on the exact release date, other than (late?) Summer. One of the tracks from the forthcoming album, "Scissor Runner" can be downloaded from their official website.
I thought this track was decent. Simple with good melodies. It's unassuming but it grows on you with subsequent listens. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. Hopefully there are some good guest vocals as well ... maybe from Elvis Costello, M. Ward, or Zooey Deschanel?

Yup, the new track is quite ordinary, but it does sort of get better upon repeat listens. Coincidentally, I found Acid Tongue to be a step down from Rabbit Fur Coat. Mediocre or not, this album will get an automatic listen from me based on Jenny alone. I'm not really familiar at all with Jonathan Rice's work (other than the fact that he has collaborated with her before), but I hope the rest of the album is more Jenny and less Johnny.

Agreed. Jenny Lewis should concentrate on her solo career which is quite good. I liked Acid Tongue better than Rabbit Fur Coat.

I was bummed since the initial announcement of this album. The worst work of her career has always been with John, listen to his last album its atrocious & the first track from this album sounds like his solo stuff.
And yeah he is lucky, she is so insanely hot.

The new song kind of sounds a bit like their "Handle With Care" cover. Nice, brisk, wooden indie music.
I do hope that the "Jenny and Johnny" title is short-lived. It sounds like it should be a show produced by Sid and Marty Krofft! Or a variety show with Bob Mackie costumes.
Personally I love both of Jenny's albums. I am a bit put off by the stuff she does with Rice, but I let it pass hoping he hits his stride with her influence and that he doesn't derail her with his.
I saw Jenny with the band in Brooklyn last year, and the lady puts on a very solid show!
She does have the ability to incorporate sex appeal very successfully in a genre that doesn't normally require it (There was a moment at the beginning of "The Next Messiah" when she turned her back to us and pushed her hair up. You had to be there, but I heard a collective sweat/gasp in the room).

I really liked her performance on Letterman with Elvis Costello. Now that's a collaboration worthy of Jenny Lewis' talent.

^Thanks for the heads-up!
Great record! I'll get it when it drops.
The sound is really good. A lot of up-tempo guitar music.
The singing w/the harmonies kind of sounds like The Byrds and S&G meet The Vaselines.
I like the weird ambient stuff thrown in as well.

Re: Jenny and Johnny (aka Jenny Lewis & Jonathan Rice) - I'm Having Fun Now
I think the album is utterly pedestrian and sounds like a hundred other acts out there. Rice has always been close to a talentless hack IMO, his incredibly non-descript vocals and redunadant guitar strumming bring down the talent of one of the greatest females in music. I love Jenny's solo work, I love early Rilo (can't stand the pop-direction they went) & this is just completely forgettable fluff.

This version, 0:08 in Jenny gets hit on from a girl in the crowd! Jenny's reaction--priceless:

I'm going to see them open for Pavement on Sunday. I've seen Jenny in the 3rd row, and I've seen Rilo Kiley live a few years, but Jenny is a longtime crush of mine.
