Radiohead LP8 (Possibly Out This Year?!)

via pitchfork:

In an interview on BBC 6 yesterday, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien said the band are currently in the studio wrapping up album number eight, as At Ease points out. "It's genuinely exciting. It's very different from what we did last time. It's really nice to be doing this," he said, contrasting the sessions with the recording of In Rainbows, which he referred to as "a slog."

Talking about a timetable for the release, O'Brien offered the following: "Ideally, it would be great if it came out sometime this year. It has got to; I hope so. We're at the finishing line. When you're making a record, a film, write a book for ages and ages you think the finishing line is miles away. Now it feels it's in touching distance. But of course, it being a creative process, at the last bit also, you have bursts of energy, you achieve a lot of things in a small period of time and then you're nearly there. It might slow down. But yeah, hopefully it will be a matter of weeks."

Listen to the interview here-- it starts around the 42-minute mark.

ummm... sweet! Favorite band ever. Did anyone get a chance to catch Atoms for Peace on tour?

edit: I know Ed is the biggest shittalker of the band and runs his mouth at the sight of an interview mic, but still, its "only a matter of weeks?"

Awesome news! But I'd say Oct.-Nov. is the absolute earliest we could expect to see it released.

If they release it in the same manner as In Rainbows, why wouldn't a matter of weeks be possible? Once it's mastered - it's ready.

For me, this is more anticipated than any movie, video game, or other album this year.

I'm certainly no authority on Radiohead's recording process, but I would bet that even if recording is over in a few weeks for the rest of the band, that doesn't mean that Nigel and Thom don't spend more time fine tuning things.

Plus I don't think it is a sure thing that they will release this one digitally beforehand.

Any update on this album? They are one of the few artists I like to own a physical copy of their disc rather than an itunes download.

Well the update is that apparently the album has been recorded and they are just looking for a release date (how about right now?)

If it is name your price again I might download it. If not I am done with Radiohead. Hail To The Theif and In Rainbows aren't very good, imo.

I can see not caring for HttT but In Rainbows was excellent, IMO. HttT was a fine collection of songs but In Rainbows was a helluva album.

Yeah both are good albums but In Rainbows was terrific.

Can't wait for a new album, and they can release it any way they want, I will buy.

I'd be curious to know which Radiohead albums are your favorite? I understand your sentiment with HttT, but IR was a return to the classic (Bends-Computer) sound that I love.

Amnesiac is actually my favorite Radiohead. I guess I really like 5 out of the 10 songs on In Rainbows but HTTT bores me.

I was pretty underwhelmed by HTTT too until I saw them play the songs live and then it really clicked for me. Although it is probably my second least favorite Radiohead album behind Pablo Honey, but it's still really good.

And, in a moment, the entire music community forgets about Arcade Fire's Grammy win.

The new Radiohead album The King Of Limbs will be on general release on CD and 12” vinyl in all music stores and digital retailers from March 28th. As with their previous album ‘In Rainbows’ the band will partner with XL Recordings (TBD Records in the USA & Canada and Hostess Entertainment in Japan & Asia).

Why an extra $5 for the WAV version over the 320kbps MP3s?

Re: Radiohead LP8 (Possibly Out This Year?!)

As much as I enjoy seeing the collector's versions that some of my favorite artists put together, at the end of the day, a CD pressing will satisfy my needs. Can't wait til March 28th!
