Duh Vuh Duh

Had this idea for a thread for a while, but thought it might be a good time with Fist of Doom's album threads.

Since, there is no title, I personally call it untitled, and obviously not self titled since the first album took care of that. I assume most people just call it IV or Zoso, but thought a thread and poll would be fun since people call it a variety of titles.

So what do you call it? Any other albums with title controversy?

I was made to believe the Fourth Zeppelin album was officially titled "Runes". Could SWEAR I read that somewhere, apparently not online anywhere.

The Beatles "White Album" is so frequently called that so much so that people have forgotten that its only real title was The Beatles.

My friends and I had always referred to it as "Led Zep 4" so that's what stuck in my mind. Funny that I've heard of all the poll mentioned titles except for Runes, which is supposedly the "official" title?

The four symbols represent each member of the band, each member having picked their own symbol themselves. "Zoso", as it's called, is just Page's individual symbol. Wikipedia, if you put much merit in their information, says the album is generally referred to as "Led Zeppelin IV". According to the band, though, there is no official title.

Four or Led Zeppelin Four.

And Peter Gabriel's first four albums are all called Peter Gabriel. In America the name of the fourth album got changed to Security. The Car, Scratch, Melt monikers came from the images on the covers. But Peter Gabriel has said many times that he intended each one to be self-titled, like issues of a magazine.

I called it 4 until high school, then a bunch of people referred to it as "zoso" and i was afraid they knew something i didn't, so i adopted that for a few years. Now i alternate between the two names for no discernible reason

No, that would be my second favorite. I just love the all the songs on the fourth album. My favorite song is still When The Levee Break.

I call it IV nowadays but when I was a teenager, all the people I hung out with that listened to it called it "Signs." (interesting that that isn't a choice above but maybe it was just a regional thing. It was introduced to me by that title and it always stuck until I noticed in college that no one called it that. )

I'm from the era and we always called it Led Zeppelin IV.

Zoso and Runes were rarely used, but I was aware of them. I've never heard anybody call it The Hermit.

I refer to them as Atlantic, Atco, and Mercury, since they were released on those labels, respectively.

You weren't the only one. That's what I used to call it then for some reason I just started saying 4 - I've never liked when people referred to it as Zoso - for whatever reason it just sounded goofy to me.

From what I've read the four symbols are the title. LZ had complete control over the covers of their LPs. Atlantic about shit because nowhere on the cover did it mention Led Zeppelin or the title. Same with HOTH. With HOTH LZ agreed to let Atlantic included a banner in the packaging which had Led Zeppelin and Houses Of The Holy printed in the Houses of The Holy logo font.
Back to the 4th album. LZ and the press did not get along well. One primary reason they used four symbols as the title was to fuck with the press, many of which had special type of the four symbols made up for printing purposes.
