The Maltese Falcon & Treasure of the Sierra Madre: 10/5/10

Already announced, but I figured these two deserved their own thread. I don't believe there's been any word yet on whether any new extras will be added, though judging by the packaging The Maltese Falcon won't include the 1931 or 1936 versions.

Kind of surprised that The Maltese Falcon, at the very least, isn't a digibook release.

Decent Maltese Falcon artwork. Terrible artwork for Sierra Madre.

Still will be picking up both of these.

2 of my all-time favorites. Both day 1 purchases. WB continues to lead the way for classics.

Ditto. I agree with those wondering why The Maltese Falcon looks to not be scoring the premium treatment Warner's been lavishing on so many of their classics (and some of their not-exactly-classics).

Am surely going for the Treasure. Never tire of watching it.

Will most likely pass on The Falcon but glad to see it is making it to blu-ray.

Cover art is terrible for both.

WB can usually be depended on to use the original poster art, so I'm not sure why they felt the need to make a change from the DVDs, unless it was some notion of making the HD release snazzier or more modern-looking.

No, they wouldn't have been posted at Classic Flix if they were.

Really? I totally dig the Maltese cover art but I wish it was getting better treatment with supplemental material.

I'm certainly interested in both titles, although I am surprised that neither of them (or at the very least, The Maltese Falcon) weren't given the digibook treatment.

Agree on the lack of digibook seeing that the Three-Disc Special Edition released in 2006 was such a nice package.

This film is definitely in the pantheon of WB treasures on the level of NBNW which did get a digibook.

P.S. - I love digibooks!

Yeah, the SE of MF was great. Even though Bogart's MF is the best, I did enjoy having the others there to see. As fan of cinema it's very cool to see where and what went wrong in them and initially leading to a proper adaptation of the crime noir.

Why doesn't WB wait until next year and do a full blown 70th Anniversary Edition? I'm betting they're lavishing all that energy on Citizen Kane.

Will pick these up at a decent price sometime, having no extras will make them cheaper hopefully. The extras wouldn't have been in HD anyway, so who cares.

Who said they won't have any extras? I would assume all of them would be ported over, as with Casablanca, Robin Hood and Dr. Zhivago.

^ Curious to see what Warners actually does as all extra content from Falcon.

It should fit with ease on one BD or will they just toss in the extras disc (or the 1931/1936 disc) from the three-disc DVD like they did on Goodfellas digibook (Warner Gangsters set documentary DVD) or Zhivago (extras DVD from the two-disc set).

Pleasantly surprised, in my case. I'm in for both of these.

Oh, I thought that was mentioned earlier. Either way, are the extras on those discs you mentioned in HD? I really stopped caring about extras on Blu since most of them seem to just be SD carry-overs, which the PS3 doesn't scale into the proper OAR anyway (one reason I held onto all my HD DVDs).

Digibook or not, I'm just crossing my fingers for lossless audio. Come on, WB!
