One Movie Wonder?

of course there is the term "one hit wonder" in regards to songs. but, i was trying to think of actors & actresses that totally wowed everyone in their debut performances and then were virtually never heard from again...

Linda Blair
(The Exorcist)

Tatum O'Neal
(Paper Moon)
won the Oscar for it and really nothing else remotely substantial, though i do like her in Rescue Me.

Re: One Movie Wonder?

Actors that did more work but nothing nearly as memorable:

Patrick Fugit- Almost Famous
Peter Billingsley- A Christmas Story
Jennifer Grey - Ferris Bueller, Dirty Dancing....then a nose job, which instead of helping her career resulted in her doing almost irrelevant supporting work.

Re: One Movie Wonder?

It may not be exactly what you're asking for, but the first person that I thought of when I read the topic title was Heather Langenkamp.

I never realized that Peter Ostrum never did any other acting other than that one movie until this thread. That is pretty amazing.

The most notable single performance was more than likely by Maria Falconetti when it really comes down to it though. She got in, presented one of the greatest performances of all time, and got out. Why exactly did she never do another film?

Re: One Movie Wonder?

Not really a fair comparison, but the dude with no hands from The Best Years of Our Lives. He even won an Oscar for it.

Re: One Movie Wonder?

First post didn't say "star-making". It said "wowed audiences". That's what she did with that role. People still reference her "mostly" line to this day. She was definitely a one-movie wonder.
