New 'Thundercats' Series Coming In 2011! First Image And Poster Arrive!
Posted 2 minutes ago by Rick Marshall in News
Thundercats... Ho!
Lion-O and the warriors from Thundera will be back on television next year in a new animated series set to air on Cartoon Network in 2011.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the new "Thundercats" series will be the studio's first project to use anime-style animation, and promises to be a "21st century reimagining" of the classic '80s cartoon series.
Along with the first promotional image from the series, WBA also sent over a brand new, ridiculously cool poster announcing the series' 2011 debut.
Here's the first image from the series:
And here's the poster we received:
According to the studio, the new series will appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers to the universe of Lion-O and his Thunderan brethren.
Calling it "a sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes," the studio offered some hints about what the new "Thundercats" series will involve, including "the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost."
For the project, WBA will collaborate with noted Japanese animation Studio4°C (“The Animatrix,” “Gotham Knights”), who will update the characters' look for the series.
"Thundercats" will be executive produced by Sam Register (“Teen Titans,” “Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”), with Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) as producers.

Wasn't the "anime-style" shit what made the He-Man reboot mediocre? Why does Warner insist in this anime-style crap? Is it that popular? Can't they do normal cartoons, like back in the 80's? I'm not liking this idea so far.

That's a great pedigree with a lot of talent onboard from great shows. The original series is unwatchable (except for the intro...which seems more like what this will be like) so I'm all for it.
I've always liked The Thundercats in theory, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

I haven't seen an episode of Thundercats since the show first aired, so I'm interested in this new version. That first image looks solid.
Weren't there rumors of the possibility of a film version as well? Maybe this new series will speed that project along too.

I don't watch much animation or cartoons nowdays, but I would be interested in this. Just as long as they don't bring back Snarf.

Actually, I have owned and watched all episodes of He-Man and Thundercats and even thought the series aren't up to par with Justice League Unlimited for example, there are good, entertaining episodes in those cartoons.

Re: New Thundercats animated series coming to Cartoon Network in 2011
I'm interested in this as well. I used to LOVE the series as a kid and had all the toys, but when it re-aired on CN several years back I couldn't sit through an episode. Lion-O worked my last nerve narrating everything that was happening to him: "The...current...is...too...strong...I...can't..reach...the...sword...of...Omens"
interesting fact: Earle Hyman (Grandpa Huxtable from The Cosby Show) was the voice of Panthro. Also, a little off topic, but Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince was the voice of Shredder in the original TMNT cartoons.

I wish the show would resemble the picture above. That would be awesome. But it'll most likely resemble every other Cartoon out there.

Wasn't the "anime-style" shit what made the He-Man reboot mediocre? Why does Warner insist in this anime-style crap? Is it that popular? Can't they do normal cartoons, like back in the 80's? I'm not liking this idea so far.

Re: New Thundercats animated series coming to Cartoon Network in 2011
I didn't watch the entire series, but I watched a few eps of the He-man reboot and it was pretty decent.
I would definitely check out a Thundercats reboot. The concept is awesome, but yeah, the old show is pretty lame. Except for the outtakes that are circling around the interwebs.

New, Official Thundercats Design Released
Source: Warner Bros. Animation
January 26, 2011
Following this morning's fan-photographed image of the new "Thundercats" series design, Warner Bros. Animation has officially released a different glimpse at the 'cats themselves. The official press release reads as follows, with the new image below.
Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.
The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.
“ThunderCats” is executive produced by Sam Register (“Teen Titans,” “Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”). Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) are the producers.

And it really didn't feel like anime at all. It had certain elements but Teen Titans was more of an anime show.
