I hope we get to see something about Epic Mickey. It's been pretty quiet since they announced it 8-9 months ago.

Maybe some news about Beyond Good & Evil, finally?

Pretty much the only thing I really care about hearing/seeing is Rock Band 3. I'm sure much of E3 is going to be about PS Move and Natal, and I really couldn't care less about them.

Flay, will you be giving Twitter updates like you did last year? Because I really appreciated that.

I'm also pretty concerned that this will turn into a Move & Natal-a-thon, but hope there will be some big game announcements as well. I would seriously doubt that Bungie would have anything non-Halo related yet, but I'd be curious to see if the other two big new multiplatform publishing deals (Respawn and Insomniac Games) have any new IPs to talk about.

I keep forgetting about Epic Mickey, but I hope we see more of that too. Also, BG&E is the thing I want most out of this E3. If we don't hear about it this year sometime, I'm assuming it's dead.

Can't wait as well for E3, looking forward to see how far Natal has come and the obvious is to see what it will actually be named. And finally at what price it will be, I know an "unofficial" leak came out that it would be $150 seperate. Hoping they used that to gauge how poeple felt about that price, personally feel it should be about $100.

On a sidenote, Corvin this is when I'm going to be down there in your neck of the woods. I'm going to have to do most of my catching up once the whole thing is over since :( While the hotel will have internet it is just not the same as being home, especially seeing the stuff they'll stream over the 360 :)

Not Dead! (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/01/ubisoft-michel-ancel-still-with-the-company-beyond-good-and-evil/) And quite funny considering the last we heard from Ubi was that the game didn't exist and wasn't in development.

I will seriously do a little dance for joy if more info comes out on this. I loved Jade Empire and think it is overlooked a good bit. Such a good story with a fun action game wrapped around it.

I'm also really wanting info on Natal. I hope Natal works out well and makes for some fun family/party gaming.

I'm sure there will be a good bit of coverage on Civilization V. I've played it a little bit, and it is quite amazing how good the graphics are. There is even a DX11 mode that has tessellation. Bethesda's E3 lineup from LazyGamer

Bethesda has announced it’s E3 line-up and I am pretty impressed by what they have on offer. I noticed a while back that there booth was considerably larger than most of the other ones and now it makes sense.

Bethesda will be showing not 1, not 2, not even 3 but 4 titles off at E3 this year in the shape of

* RAGE
* Brink
* Fallout: New Vegas
* Hunted

Definitely interested in trying out RAGE, Brink, and Fallout, but I haven't heard anything about Hunted yet.

Insomniac is going multi-platform for their next game and since Sony owns Resistance and Ratchet, it won't be a sequel in either franchise.

I just got my badge in the mail and will most likely be going for the last 2 days. I got an invite to the Nintendo press conference, but wouldn't go to that if they paid me :) My friend at Sony can get us into all of their stuff so I should get my hands on some Killzone and Move. Also have a guy at 2K but I don't know what they have this year. Hopefully it's a fun trip, I haven't been since the last "good" year before they killed it off.

It all depends...if she is handing out drugs and medical advice, probably. But if she is just there to get your heart going, ;), it's all good.

Seriously though, why do so many gamers get all worked up (in a negative way) over booth babes? (getting them removed from many of these expos, restricting them, etc). These expos are supposed to have a little bit of fun in them, isn't that why we play games anyway? Fun? :D For pete's sakes, they are booth babes. Treat them like the sexual objects they are, take pictures with them for your blog (WISH YOU WERE HERE) and move on. It fascinates me that people take issue with these sorts of things.

chuckd21

I don't know any gamers who wanted the booth babes gone, wasn't that the E3 people themselves wanting to classy up the thing?

What irritates me are things like the G4 contest, because I know girls into gaming who would love to go to E3, and the only way they think they can get a chance to go is competing with their tits.

devilshalo
06-07-10, 01:35 PM
The problem wasn't the booth babes themselves, but rather that companies were dressing them in less and less each year and it started to resemble a porn convention where it was taking away from people actually looking at the games.

There were babes there last year, but they were dressed a bit more appropriately.

Oh, my wife would love to go to E3 or anything gamer related with me (Blizzcon, Penny Arcade) given the chance and money. That's for sure.

I don't have the link right now being at work and all, but there was an article on Kotaku that said they polled people at the Penny Arcade expo about booth babes and the result was that most of the pollsters were male (duh!) and most were looking for restrictions on booth babes (like they had to know something about the game, etc). My favorite booth babe story happened at the Wizard World Comic Convention in Chicago back in 2008 (I think). That year, the Admiral Theater had purchased a booth. The Admiral Theater, for those not familiar with Chicago's cultural offerings, is a strip club, and naturally, the Admiral Theater booth was staffed by a couple of strippers.

So my friends and I are walking past it, just amazed that the strip club has a booth at the comic show, when we see a man with two kids -- probably 6 and 8 years old, I would guess -- approaching the booth. And the Dad pulls out a camera, hands it to the older kid, and poses for a picture with the two strippers!

I would have loved to have been there when Dad got the kids home and Mom asked what they saw at the comic book convention (or, more likely, when Mom picked the kids up at the end of the weekend per the custody agreement).

Sexism does hurt both genders. I'll also even agree that a boy who chooses to play games designated "girl" is looked down on more than a girl who plays a game designated "boy" because society in general dislikes the idea of a guy giving up his gender privilege. Whereas a girl is seen a "playing up" so to speak and isn't denigrated as much.

All that being said, the key difference here imo is often games are being developed by primarily male studios and the marketing is "here's something those chicks will like." It also doesn't help that the many of the throwaway mini-game collections targeting girls have low budgets, shitty gameplay, and even worse marketing.

Natsume's lineup:

Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar (DS)

The bazaar is now open! Zephyr Town's bazaar was once the grandest in the world, drawing customers and peddlers from all four corners of the Earth. These days, though, the bazaar has more tumbleweeds than customers. Maybe you can turn its fortunes around! Raise animals, harvest crops, craft rare delicacies, and then sell your wares at your very own shop! Can you bring prosperity back to Zephyr Town?

Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals (DS)

The Sinistrals have returned! The Sinistrals, the four legendary harbingers of doom, are out to resurrect the ultimate evil and bring the world to its knees. It's up to the fiery monster hunter Maxim and his eclectic band of adventurers to put a stop to them once and for all. Their adventures will take them across an expansive world packed with dangerous enemies, powerful items, and diabolical puzzles!

Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon (DS)

It's an adventure that will transform you! The people of Sharance and their horned Univir neighbors are embroiled in a bitter conflict. An age-old hatred between humans and monsters divides them. You are an adventurer with an unusual secret: you're half human and half monster.
Are you the one who can unite the humans and the Univir? And will you be in time to stop the growing evil force that threatens to destroy them both?

Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove (DS)

Gabrielle's having a bad day. She sneezed her soul right out of her body! She'll have to travel to Monster Town, the home of all things that go bump in the night, to get help. Only by busting out the ghostliest dance moves and thrilling and chilling people will she be able to scare up the power she needs to get herself back into her body! It's a spooktacular rhythm adventure!

Really looking forward to the 3DS reveal. I had the original DS when it first came out, but it ended up collecting dust after a few months because so few good games came out during the first year or two. I don't even remember what happened to it. It might be in storage somewhere, or I may have sold it. But, I checked up on the DS a few days ago after reading about the 3GS and I was surprised by the number of titles that interested me. Probably about 15-20. Hopefully the 3DS is backwards compatible.

I hope it's coming out soon though, as I'm tempted to pick up a DSLite or DSi.

There were no new locations (except for the Never Land areas) and the story was useless.. but the gameplay was really solid, the panel system was extremely deep and the challenge missions added a level of replay value none of the games have really had before (other than simply playing on different difficulties). The multi-player was awesome as hell as well.

Birth by Sleep has everything a "new" Kingdom Hearts game would have.. but I guess since doesn't have some arbitrary number attached to the title it doesn't count?

It doesn't count because I'm not sponsored by the letters P, S, or P.

Also I wasn't fully fair with 358/2 because it had been almost a year since I last used my DS and the left shoulder got wonky and I decided I'd wait for news on the 3DS before I decided to upgrade to it or the DSiXL.

That video raises all sorts of questions: Why aren't peoples' lips moving when they talk? Is that woman the first dude's girlfriend or his mother? Why do they have two Brits and a guy from Brooklyn? What kind of accessories is the guy using with his PS3 that he needs more than two USB ports? If he's using so many different things with his PS3, why do they show him with an iPad instead of somethign PS3-related? What kinds of horrific things will happen if people touch my controller when I'm not using it?

I love how they talk about this thing making things so neat and tidy with "no wires," yet they neglect to show the cables that must be connected to the back of the system for it to be used at all. You won't be able to twist it around like that without stressing the connectors or having cables fall off. Just setting it down flat would look more neat than having wires coming out of the side.

Oh man...I know I’m late to the party but I couldn't resist.

1. First off why is Stoner Gamer Dude playing his PS3 on a projector with horrible lighting? He also shouldn't complain about 100% accuracy with his controllers, he seemed to hit every corner in that racing game. Oh, but he gave the screen a serious look. He's a HARDCORE GAMER! Nothing but the best for him!

2. Next we meet his mom. You see, hardcore gamers don't have time to get jobs. They got to worry about online rankings, you know? So they live at home their whole life. But now with the TwistDock at least his mom won't trip on all his cords when she cleans up his mess at night.

3. Then we meet my favorite, Mr. Technology, who's lips are quivering and his eyes about to pour out tears because Sony only has 2 USB ports. Those fucks! You hate to connect and disconnect cables all the time? Is that expensive coach and your iPad and your Patrick Bateman apartment not enough for you? This is why the rest of the world hates us.

I'll take 2.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/13/kinect-library-for-xbox-360-revealed-by-usa-today/

USA Today has spilled the proverbial beans on Microsoft's Natal project -- not only has the paper confirmed the Kinect product name, but they've posted a few of the games in the pipeline for the system. Here we go:

* Kinectimals features over 20 different virtual pets, including lions, tigers, and cheetahs, to play with or raise.
* Joyride has returned to life as a controller-free racing game, apparently.
* Kinect Sports will offer sport games to play: "boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis." For each one, you will make motions to play the games.
* Kinect Adventures has a river raft and obstacle course to navigate -- this is likely the demo we saw last week.
* MTV Games will release Dance Central, where you can cut a virtual rug.
* And there will be more games announced later featuring both Disney characters and Star Wars characters, in conjunction with Disney and LucasArts, respectively.

Marc Whitten even namedrops Nintendo in USA Today's piece, but he says that without a controller, Kinect will be "fundamentally different." We'll keep our eyes open for these games all this week, so stay tuned.

USA Today article:
By Mike Snider, USA TODAY
LOS ANGELES — There's a growing movement in video games — motion control. And Microsoft's latest twist: Its new system for the Xbox 360, dubbed Kinect and being unveiled this week, requires no controller at all.

Nintendo started the wave with simplified, wireless, movement-sensing Wii controllers in late 2006. Since then, consumers have bought more than 28 million Wiis. (In comparison, sales of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are about 20 million and 12.3 million, respectively.)

MORE: Electronic Expo themes
GAME HUNTERS: Our team will be at E3 all week; follow all the news in our blog

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo game convention beginning today, both Sony and Microsoft will reveal new details about their motion control systems, due later this year.

Microsoft got a head start Sunday night by incorporating its game system and footage from new titles into a performance by Cirque Du Soleil at the University of Southern California. The performance troupe, which spent four months developing "a customized experience," took its inspiration for the event from Kinect, the official name of what had been known as Project Natal under development.

The 4-year-old Xbox 360 has long seemed targeted at hard-core gamers, with a controller that could be intimidating.

"For lots of people, that controller is a barrier," says creative director Kudo Tsunoda. "We set out to make a new control paradigm where anybody can get in and play, without having to read the instructions or learn a complicated set of controls."

Kinect's built-in camera and microphone (due later this year, no price set) uses facial and voice recognition to let you, for instance, log onto Xbox Live, start games and pause movies. And a new menu lets you choose games or services such as Netflix by simply reaching out and pointing toward the screen selection. Video chat lets Xbox 360 homes connect; the smart camera widens when another person enters the room.

Microsoft's Marc Whitten credits Nintendo with setting things in motion: "They have done some amazing things and brought new people to the category. This is fundamentally different. It's (about) my body being the controller (and) being able to communicate with just my voice to the system."

Among games in the works:

•Kinectimals lets you train and play with 20 different virtual cats, including a lion, cheetah and tiger.

•Joyride, a racing game, lets players use their hands to hold an imaginary steering wheel — pull your hands toward you and push back out for an acceleration boost — and their bodies to execute jumps and tricks.

•Kinect Sports has six activities including boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. To serve a volleyball, you mimic the real motion; in soccer, you can kick the ball or do a header.

•Kinect Adventures includes a river-raft time trial and obstacle course, playable by up to four players. On the raft, playing as a duo, you and a partner must lean one way or another to steer. Jumping helps the raft reach special areas for extra points.

•Dance Central, in development by MTV Games, brings a So You Think You Can Dance experience home.

•Star Wars characters and iconic Disney favorites will be featured in separate new games being developed at Microsoft in conjunction with LucasArts and Disney.

"This is (Microsoft's) attempt to leapfrog the Wii and broaden the appeal of the Xbox," says Geoff Keighley of Spike's GameTrailers. "The questions are, 'Does the controller-free environment make (the Xbox 360) more accessible?' and 'Is it fun?' "

Ubisoft's offerings:

Gold's Gym Dance Workout, developed by Land Ho!, is the first dance game specifically designed to promote fitness and weight loss. Players can choose from a wide variety of choreographed dance routines influenced by Latin dance styles, as well as participate in sessions incorporating boxing and mini-games that target specific muscles - all to the sounds of hit music tracks such as "Just Dance," "I Will Survive," and "Jai Ho." Gold's Gym Dance Workout takes training to new levels of fun by incorporating trainer feedback and options that allow the players to choose an individual workout program or create their own fitness routine.

Dance on Broadway, developed by Longtail Studios, features a soundtrack of 20 of Broadway's classic hits, including such beloved musicals as "Cabaret" and "Fame" that instantly transform the living room into center stage. Aspiring performers can sing solo or share the spotlight with up to four players in a game that will have everyone in the household singing and dancing their calories away.

The new Who Wants To Be A Millionaire video game is created by Ludia and is based on the Disney-ABC Domestic Television hit game show, which will premiere its ninth season in syndication this fall. The Millionaire video game, on display in the Bullseye Lounge at E3, will put the brains of expo attendees to work as they compete against one another to answer increasingly difficult trivia questions. Visitors to the Bullseye Lounge will be able to experience the drama and intensity of the pop culture game show sensation first-hand, as they test their trivia knowledge and give their “final answers.”

Hollywood Squares, created by Ludia and licensed by CBS Consumer Products, brings the laughter and entertainment of the classic comedy game show to the Wii. Participants can go head-to-head in a unique rendition of the show that combines tic-tac-toe, virtual celebrities (including Brad Garrett, Kathy Griffin, Martin Mull, Jeffrey Tambor and host Tom Bergeron) and ultimate bluffing to provide hours of humor for all ages.
