The art for the 2-disc is pretty cool.

Heard mixed things about it. Unlike most, I only sporadically hated Diary, so I'll probably like it more than everyone else.

I just sold off my UK DVD about a week ago for $15 in hopes of the US version actually getting special features. I guess I'll pick up the 2 disc, unless a BD version is available.

I think I'll give this one a shot as I really liked the last installment, Diary of the Dead-

Might grab the BD if it's better than the UK import in pq/aq.

Not a bad zombie flick. Unless you're looking for golden age Romero. Better than Diary, that's for sure (although I didn't hate that). I already own the R2, will probably just stick with that version for now.

About thirty years too late for that! He should really just throw in the towel already.

While this is definately not Dawn of the Dead, it isn't a bad flick. I'm not a fan of digital gore, but I enjoyed it.

So digital gore costs less than hiring one guy to do makeup?

Overall, yes.

Romero goes into this on his commentary on Diary of the Dead. The meter's always running whenever you're on a filmvideo set. Makeup effects take longer to prepare, the reset time can be enormous when something goes wrong (the timing's off, the blood doesn't spew the way you want, etc...you have to clean everything up and start all over)... Digital gore lets him shoot and get off the set ASAP. The more quickly you can shoot and be outta there, the cheaper a movie is...more of an opportunity cost type of thing than the cost of makeup supplies vs. CGI.

I'm not even a little bit of a fan of digital splatter, but that's the argument.

Well typical. I prefer the single disk cover.

I'm really torn on this one. I'm a huge zombie whore, but I've been really underwelmed by Romero's last two efforts.

Romero is a horrible film maker, but I'll probably buy this one too. God, Diary of the Dead could have been made by a monkey.

Thanks for clearing that up. I figured like it would be cheaper for us to do the make-up than buying a computer & software to make the FX if we were making a movie.

i remember in the commentary for zombie's version of Halloween, he kept saying that it was a pain in the ass for the effects because many little things went wrong

I like the 2-Disc cover.

Admittedly, as much as I like the classic "trilogy", I've been underwhelmed with his recent zombie films.

Agreed about the cover but after watching Land of the Dead & Diary of the Dead for a 2nd time recently I have to disagree with you there as I feel all 5 Zombie flicks were very enjoyable, especially if your a fan of Romero which I definately am!
As I side note I found out recently that he has a home near by me here in SW Fl. on Sanibel Island. Wish I could find it and get my DVD's signed!!!

Well I will buy it,but going to go in with low expectations. Very low. Tho I haven't watched Diary yet even tho I've had it since release day when I bought it and Night's 40th Anniversary DVD together. I plan on finally watching it soon tho.

Re: George Romero's Survival Of The Dead 8-24-10

I, for one, liked "Survival" more than "Diary", all the silliness notwithstanding. I'll consider it a nice addition to my Romero's zombie collection.
