View Full Version : Series You Own All But One Installment

I was thinking about this. At one point I didn't own Halloween 3 and 6 because I really hated them. Eventually I bought them because I got them super cheap. I can't really think of any other series where I don't own them all (unless you count AVP and AVP-R as part of the Alien or Predator series) I guess Terminator is another one I don't own Terminator Salvation since I hated that movie.

Anyone else?

Funny you mention the Halloween films because that's one for me. I own every one, including the Rob Zombie remake. But I checked out the most recent installment from Redbox and have no desire to watch it again anytime soon. I guess it could be debated that the Zombie ones aren't part of the original series and wouldn't count, but I'm including 'em for the sake of your question.

And the other one that comes to mind is owning all of the Jaws films except for The Revenge which I pretend is not part of the series because it is truly awful.

-I own Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2, but not 3.
-I own Dario Argento's Suspiria and Inferno, but I don't own Mother of Tears.
-I own Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2, but not Los Angeles.
-I own every James Bond film except Quantum of Solace (I was waiting for the "Definitive Edition" to come out, like they did with Casino Royale; I was right, it'll be out soon).
-I own Mission: Impossible 1 and 2, not 3.

It's more than one installment, but I don't own Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection. Also, I own Halloween 1, 2, 4 and Zombie's remake, and I don't own the others. I own Vacation and Christmas Vacation, not European and Vegas. And I own Star Trek 2, 3, 4 and the reboot, but none of the others. That's all I can think of off hand.

EDIT: I own the first 3 X-Men films (even The Last Stand), but not Wolverine. That was just too much garbage.

I own Smokey and the Bandit 1 and 2, but no 3.
I own Sliders S1-3 but don't care about the rest.

I also don't have Terminator Salvation because I'm waiting to find the Target exclusive DVD at a decent price.

There's some Godzilla flicks I don't own because they're either pan and scan or simply not available.

I have Batman (1989) and Batman Returns, but not Forever or B&R.

Me too, for the same exact reason. I haven't yet seen it below $20, and that is way too much money for that flick.

I own Mission Impossible II & III, but not the first one.
Halloween, all but III.

"Child's Play" (want to get it but have a hard time justifying paying more for one film in a series than I paid total for the rest of them).

"Halloween 3" (because I hated it)

"Fast and Furious" (just never got around to picking it up, but I have all 3)

"Sleepaway Camp 4"

I own Terminator 1-3 and consider it the end of the franchise.

I own Raiders, Temple of Doom and Last Crusade. I don't acknowledge the existence of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I own X Men 1-3. won't ever own Wolverine.

I own the Alien Quadrilogy but neither VS movie.

Major League 1&2 but not the sequel that I don't even remember the title to.

I own If.. and O Lucky Man, but not Britania Hospital.

I own all the Halloweens except for Halloween III,and Rob Zombie's Halloween II,tho I plan on picking up H2 when it hits $7.50 or less.

I own all the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, the original, part II,and Leatherface as well as the Remake & Remake Prequel but I try to ignore that "Next Generation" even exists.

I own all the seasons of Tales From The Crypt, and the Deadly Duo double feature,as well as the Canadian releases of Tales from the Cryptkeeper Seasons 1 & 2 but will probably never pick up Ritual based on reviews and the opinion of one of my best friends who LOVES horror movies and TFTC but hates Ritual and only owns it to complete his collection.

I don't own Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, because I didn't like the movie enough to buy it,BUT I will eventually buy it once the Trilogy comes to Blu-Ray.

I own Return of the Living Dead 1 & 2,but haven't picked up 3 because I'm waiting on a Uncut R1 release,and again I try to ignore Parts 4 & 5

Not technically a series, but I own 3 DVD Editions of The Original Night of the Living Dead(Fox Colorized Mike Nelsoned Version,30th Anniversary Edition, and the 40th Anniversary Edition),and then the 1990 Remake, but have yet to buy the 2006 3D Remake. I also have Day of the Dead but NOT the "unofficial official" sequel Day of the Dead 2:Contangium or the Remake both because they got bad reviews and they look like horseshit(even tho the cover for DOTD2:C is pretty cool, but come on the Remake's cover has a Zombie Puking? WTF?)

I own every Pixar Blu-Ray Yet(as well as DVDs of Finding Nemo,The Incredibles and both the 2-Disc Anniversary & Toy Box Editions of Toy Story I & 2) BUT for some odd reason haven't picked up A Bug's Life yet. No idea why, seeing as I liked the movie, and have every other Pixar release even the Pixar Shorts Volume I Blu-Ray. I will probably buy it when Toy Story 3 comes to Blu-Ray seeing as when a Pixar movie comes out the others usually go on sale with the new one.

I'm sure there are more but these are what came to mind 1st.

Pumkinhead 1, 3, & 4. Part 2 is stupid and has nothing to do with the original storyline.

Pet Sematary is not half bad (not quite as good as the book but not bad), Pet Sematary 2 is stupid (made for the kiddies).

Star Trek (The Motion Picture), Star Trek 2 (The Wrath of Khan), Star Trek 3 (The Search For Spock), but skipped Star Trek 4 (The Voyage Home), the one about the whales, because it's stupid.:p -kd5-

I own the 2 Aliens vs. Predator movies, but neither solo Predator film. I've been meaning to pick them up, but have held off in case there is a reissue with movie money for the new flick.

IMO No. 4 is the Funniest of the Star Trek Movies! rotfl

Own X-Men 1 - 3 on Blu-ray, will never own Wolverine.

I forgot about Sleepaway Camp, I also don't own Return to Sleepaway Camp, one of the worst movies ever. I also own Urban Legend and Urban Legends: Final Cut but not Bloody Mary (though I feel Final Cut was pretty damn bad).

-I own the first 3 X-Men films but not Wolverine, because I disliked that movie
-I own Pumpkinhead 1 & 2 but not 3 & 4 because those were just stupid
-I own Return of the Living Dead parts 1 & 2, as stated by someone else I'm also awaiting a R1 uncut version to come out. 4 was awful, 5 was okay at best

Kung Fu Season 2 & 3, but not 1 because they matted out part of the image. I used to have the seasons of Quantum Leap that managed to be released without the music changes, but dumped them...

I have Millenium Season's 1 and 2, but Season 3 was pretty bad imo, and while I watched it on FX years ago, it's not worth owning to me. I also don't have Simpsons S1 because it's the weakest season and have seen it a few times already.

I have Mad Max and The Road Warrior which I love, but I won't pay any money for Beyond Thunderdome.

I have all Hellraiser movies but the latest, Hellworld.
I didn't like Deader and have therefore not bothered with Hellworld, although I might buy it some day since the plot actually seems more interesting than Deader.

I have Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, but not Rise of the Lycans. Liked the first two movies a lot, but I don't normally like prequels that are done after the "main" movies.

Only have the first two Spider-Man movies. Not because I thought the third was an abomination, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I wasn't enthusiastic enough that I feel the need to own it any time soon, but if I come across it at the right price, I'll re-watch it.

Currently, my Bond library is missing Never Say Never Again. I sold the original DVD release in anticipation of the 2-disc version that came out last year, but then I held off on buying that version until we upgraded to Blu-ray. Since we made the leap, I just haven't gotten around to replacing it.

Otherwise, I'm sure I've got incomplete series, but these are the only two series I have that meet the criteria of the thread. I mean, I love Wild Things--Bill Murray was never funnier--but I have no desire whatsoever to see either of its DTV sequels.

As a collector, my OCD wouldn't allow me to not own every installment in a series.

I do want every legitimate sequel, but do you feel the need to own every installment in a series just because they plaster the franchise name on it. Like would you need to own every American Pie movie or Wild Thing movie just because they have the same name, but are really not real sequels.

That's where I draw the line.

I'm similar.

If I really love a film, I'll have to buy them all.

Luckily, I found the original American Pie mediocre, so no need to buy the others. I think I own the first two only because of exclusives. Wild Things was decent, but no desire or compulsion to buy the sequels.

But there are dozens of examples of series where I'll always buy the sequels, no matter how bad they get. Luckily, I'm very patient and can wait until they are a $3 or less. Also, I can be patient when it comes to TV seasons with music changes or other foibles.

I own all the Aliens and Predator movies, as well as, AVP. However, I refuse to own AVP-R. It gnaws at me since I am a completist. But that movie is just fucking terrible.

At least AVP had sets which resembled the corridors from the previous movies and the rampaging Alien queen at the end was pretty cool. But in AVP-R we get Aliens sneaking around in people's backyards. What a piece of shit! Also, if you watch AVP-R from start to finish, you'll notice that there isn't one iconic shot in the entire movie. The creatures are so carelessly filmed that its painfully obvious that they're just guys in suits.

Sorry for the rant, but I just spent a week agonizing over this decision.

Terminator- own 1-3 on dvd and also part 2 on Blu-ray, but haven't picked up Terminator: Salvation yet.

Spider-Man- own 1 and 2 never bought part 3. I didn't hate it but I just haven't felt a strong need to buy it either.

X-Men- bought the first three as a trilogy pack on dvd for cheap around the time Wolverine came out, but have never picked Wolverine up yet.

Halloween (2007)- I'm counting the Zombie movies as separate from the others. I don't really have much desire to ever have Halloween 2 in my collection unless I get it way cheap.

The French Connection- have the first but never bought the sequel.

Predator (not counting the AVP films which I also don't own)- only have the first.

Kill Bill- I had both Volume 1 and 2 on dvd but sold them off when I bought the Blu-ray of Volume 1. Have yet to purchase Volume 2 but plan on it.

To another poster, I forgot about I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, I refuse to own that. I have seen it and it's horrible! I own the first 2 on BD.

Some others I thought of:

-Own both Addams Family movies but not that stupid one Addams Family Reunion
-Own the 94 Street Fighter but not the Legend of Chun-Li
-If you consider the American Pie DTV movies as sequels then I don't own of those but own the original 3
-I own the first 2 (and IMO only 2) Ace Ventura movies and not that retarded "sequel" Ace Ventura Jr.
-I own Dracula 2000 and Dracula II, but not Dracula III (owned it at one point but was very disappointed and sold it)
-I don't own Muppets Wizard of Oz even though I like it. I own all the other theatrical films, I know WoO wasn't a theatrical film, but I don't consider the TV movie Christmas things as part of the "movie collection"
-I don't own the 2007 Hills Have Eyes II
-I don't own Home Alone 3 or 4, though I did at one point before I bought 1 & 2 on BD and got rid of the box set
-I don't own Hollow Man 2
-I own A Kid in Aladdin's Palace but not A Kid in King Arthur's Court (but I have it on Laserdisc if that counts)
-I don't own The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
-I don't own Night of the Demons 3, though I'm not sure it's on DVD
-I own Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal & Red Dragon but not Hannibal Rising (which I consider the worst movie ever made)
-I own Rocky Horror Picture Show but not that subpar excuse for a sequel Shock Treatment

I think that's everything, went through my whole collection

Yeah, I figured it would suck. I've never seen it. I immediately dismissed it when I learned that Jennifer Love Hewitt wasn't in it. Those were her movies, IMO. I do have the first two on both DVD and BD.
