FlashForward -- Series Finale -- "Future Shock" -- 05/27/10

Flash Foward

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
It's D-Day - April 29, 2010 - and while everyone waits to see if their flashforward visions come true, Mark uncovers the date of the next blackout, and Simon, with Demetri, attempts to stop it from happening by breaking into the NLAP mainframe.

"Future Shock" was written by Timothy J. Lea & Scott M. Gimple and directed by John Polson.

Here it is folks, the final produced episode of the series. What happened to this series reminds me of what happened to Commander in Chief 5 years ago. Started out promising with good ratings and buzz and then crashed and burned after behind the scenes problems (switching showrunners three times this season) and horrendous creative problems. Oh well!

RIP FlashForward (2009-2010)

... and the biggest problem of all. It wasn't very good. Even towards the end.

I did like the last 4 or 5 episodes better, but over all the show was too confusing with too many unlikable protagonists. I thought it was telling that some of the posters (myself) could not even remember many of the characters names. I just called them by the actors last name.

I am still looking forward to this episode, so they must have done something right. I gotta say, I dig Janis.

OR a minor character from another show (Penny from LOST).

This show essentially had a great premise with horrible execution. The extended hiatus was just a bad idea on ABCs part. If they wanted it to be another LOST, they needed to show it continuously without a break.

I wonder if the book on which this was based is any good.

^^ Robert Sawyer, who wrote the book this was based off, did write 1 episode this season and it was actually one of the better episodes. I never heard of the book prior to this show.

I like Christine Woods (Janis) alot and might check out her new show on NBC. She was probably the best character on the show.

Will it end, though? Did they write and shoot this as a series finale in case they didn't get picked up?

I'm not vested enough to shed a tear if there is a cliffhanger ending, but curious to see how it wraps up nonetheless.

I don't think it will. I read a couple of interviews with Sonya Walger and Jack Davenport and neither said the show ends with clear cut closure. This episode was shot before they officially got the axe and they said most of the myseries will get resolved, but they left the door open for a 2nd season.

Ah, good to know, thanks! In any case, I'll be happy to have another show off the DVR list.

I'm going to miss Janis.

I actually like the show but it's no big loss for me as long as I get some sort of wrap up.

Janis (Christine Woods) has been cast in Perfect Couples.

A decent ending given the circumstances.

I wonder if
Spoiler:
Mark made a flying leap at the helicopter at the last second in the original, non-cancelled version

If they have additional material to fill things out a little, an extended cut of the last episode on DVD might turn this into a decent, if flawed, little show.

And what happened to the window washer turned preacher character?

Re: FlashForward -- Series Finale -- "Future Shock" -- 05/27/10

I thought the first 2-3 episodes were very good, then it simply sucked up until the break. The break ruined this show because the remainder of the season was great, unfortunately nobody was watching anymore. Without that break I think the show could have made it.

I was satisfied with the finale though. There was closure for some characters and some good mystery left open. I wish the show would have gotten picked up for one more season.

Yeah the break definitely killed the momentum. I enjoyed the beginning because it was a different kind of show. Then I remember the shows starting to not be as good, then another blackout, then the break...yikes.

I also did watch the finale and it was a good finale. All of the flashes came true and I actually left wanting more. Too bad they canceled it.

The flashes came true, which means there weren't too many surprises in this episode. I had a hard time accepting the Lost folk on this show, and I never really cared for any of the characters. What was up with the kangaroo in the pilot and now the finale?

well sort of. the FBI director guy wasn't exactly doing the same thing, although he was in the same place, Janis' baby was a boy, not a girl, looks like Mark's wife and Simcoe didn't knock boots..

that was actually a pretty good ending. too bad it didn't get renewed.

I don't see how, he fell unconscious due to the second FlashForward before he got to the edge of the building.

I enjoyed the second half of the season and I thought the finale was quite entertaining. I have nothing to watch now...haha

Too bad ABC doesn't approve of a 2 hour wrap up movie for this & any other serial show that gets cancelled.

Re: FlashForward -- Series Finale -- "Future Shock" -- 05/27/10

It was pretty good although very unsatisfying as far as closure was concerned. The new flash forward had some interesting stuff but each part was too short; if they had shown each person, i.e. who was holding the gun, it would have been much better.

Re: FlashForward -- Series Finale -- "Future Shock" -- 05/27/10

There wasn't any wrap up. The FF's for the most part came true except for Demetri not being dead and Simpco not knocking boots with Penny. Then to top it off we get another FF 5 years in the future. So did they expect to get 4 more seasons to tell THAT story? Why did they take Janis?

Ugh. I liked the show but didn't like them not giving us any closure at all.
