It looks almost the same cover as the R2 release. At least it will be cheaper than importing it, which I was going to do anyways. I guess I'll wait now.

Sweet. This'll be a blind buy for sure.

I kept dodging a purchase for the Korean Blu-ray, so I suppose I'll just keep holding off until August for this one. Exciting!

To be honest, I was pretty disappointed in this one. I was supposed to review it and didn't.
The action scenes are pretty good, but it just drags on and on. The final scene was just excruciating, as opposed to its namesake's excruciating tension.

This is awesome news. I saw this at the Toronto International Film Festival a couple of years ago, and the director did a Q&A session afterwards. Loved this film right away and have been waiting forever for a North American release. I thought it struck just the right balance between humor and action. I saw Sukiyaki Western Django a couple of months later, but didn't like it as much as this one. Hopefully Amazon.ca will be importing this.

Rocshemp,
there is an international version about 6-8 min shorter than the official korean version. AFAIK, the korean version is only available along with the international version on the 3 disc korean dvd (what I have) or on the japanese blu ray.
The korean blu and the UK blu are both the international version (although the UK is cut a little more for horse fall scenes).

Listings for this release (on Amazon and DVDEmpire) are giving it a runtime of 130 minutes, so it looks like this is the Korean version.

Hmm. That blows. I guess I better google the Korean BD, just in case, to see if it's region A and has English subtitles.

Sorry, I thought there were only two cuts, but actually it looks like there are three main ones:
Cannes Film Festival: 120 min
South Korea: 139 min
International: 130 min
I guess it could be worse. We could be getting the 120 min version. Does the International cut include the same ending as the Korean version?

The Korean and International versions are both director approved. I personally like the Korean cut better as there are 2 scenes I like that were cut (The drug scene and the final explosion scene) and there are minor editing differences here and there.
Also, the Korean version has Korean titles and end credits while the International cut has English.
The ending itself is the same in both, but there are 4 alternate endings. (I liked the middle-finger one)

quite a few cut bits in the international version, apparently they were deemed too "korean" for anyone else to notice or care. Personally, there is only omission of note which is towards the end (as manicsounds also alludes to).
I just dont understand why the option cant be presented via seamless branching like on the japanese BD

I would disagree. Whilst I think it is only above average as an overall film, the (numerous) action scenes are filmed with more energy, verve and thrill than any action scenes that have come out of hollywood for quite some time.
