This was the first episode that I've enjoyed since it came back from it's break. We got a big piece of Damon and Stefan's back story and the episode actually made me look forward to next week with how it ended.
I still think Jeremy and Anna are much more interesting, and have better chemistry, than Stefan and Elena.

I think Elena is the most boring character of the entire show. She's relegated to saying "Stephan!" or "Damon!" while looking constipated about 400 times an episode.

I wonder if we'll get a refocused cast next season? Bonnie, the blond, and her boyfriend are a waste.

Pearl is more interesting than all of the other regulars that drop in every few episodes. I'm pissed off that she had to die.

Really disappointed in how she met her end. Supposedly she was the oldest and strongest vampire in town and shes done in by what was in essence a sucker punch.

That to me is the problem with most vampire shows. They make them so strong that it becomes a bit implausible when they finally bite it to a human.
Plus I am not a huge fan of the "older they get, the stronger they are" mythology. I can understand getting better with practice at using your powers, but the whole increasing strength and speed I get annoyed by.

The only Movie/series that I can remember not following that mythos was Blade. The Oldest vampire was shown as weak and frail.

There is a reason for it as well. The concept is that the older vampires sire weaker progeny. When a sire expires, their power is transferred down their lines almost like an inheritance. (True for True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse novels, Angle/Buffy-verse, Moonlight and Ann Rice's "Vampire Chronicles".)

I enjoy all the side characters. I like to spread around the stories. I like the Matt/Blond interaction as well.
