15 Movie Posters Re-Imagined With the Stars Originally Cast

Not to say it wouldn't be the contemporary classic that it is today, but 'The Matrix' would've taken us down a whole different rabbit hole had Will Smith not passed on the role of Neo, opening the door for Keanu Reeves to don the dark trench coat. Can anyone really imagine The Fresh Prince uttering lines like "Whoa, déjà vu" with the same sense of stunned bewilderment?

How about if Ralph Macchio went time-traveling as Marty McFly, or Tom Cruise danced his heart out as Ren McCormack?

Rarely does a project in Hollywood start and finish with the same lead actors attached. Just see this summer's thriller 'Salt,' where the role of Angelina Jolie's wrongly accused spy Evelyn Salt was originally to be played by Cruise (as EDWIN Salt, natch).

We thought it'd be amusing to give these 15 casting fun facts -- actors (reportedly or rumoredly) originally attached or offered the roles you see below -- some visual representation.

Richard Grieco in Speed. That just has a "direct to video" vibe to it. And the Pretty Woman casting, that was just scary.

Wow, those are pretty frightening. Now where's the poster of CASABLANCA with Ronald Reagan, Ann Sheridan and Dennis Morgan?

Major fail. Terrible photoshopping, and they got the got the ages wrong on the actors more often than not.

I thought Bill Murray was the original intended choice for Eddie in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"

Was Russell Crowe really rumored to play Aragorn in Lord of the Rings?

I know Stuart Townsend was orginally hired and Viggo was a last second fill in but I don't remember hearing anything about Crowe.

And where's Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones?

I never really watched Magnum PI. Is that picture real? Was that just kind of a joke due to the fact that Selleck couldn't play Indy due to his contract with Magnum?

Yeah, that's a real picure, and the episode was an in-joke.

And Harvey Kietel was Captain Willard for a week or so before Sheen got the job.

There was absolutely no effort put into those posters. Really crappy job.

Actually, it was Daniel Day Lewis who was the original choice for Peter Jackson to play Aragon.

Back to the Future had Eric Stoltz, not Ralph Macchio.

Well you're right, Daniel Day Lewis was offered the role but he liked Gangs of New York better. Townsend was hired and even rehersed and trained for 2 months and then was fired the day before filming was to begin. Jackson thought he was too young for the role.

Yeah I heard about Stoltz. Definitely wan't Daniel-san.

Re: 15 Movie Posters Re-Imagined With the Stars Originally Cast

I don't know where they got Ralph Maccio from. In all of my years as a Future fan I've never heard that rumor.

Eric Stoltz was actually replaced, and there's still images of him, so that would've worked better.

What a terrible photoshop job. I was surprised to see Eddie Muprhy in Roger Rabbit - I don't know if I believe that.

Ronald Reagan was never officially cast as Rick. I believe his name was mentioned in a memo or something, but he was never actually cast.

Jason Robards as Fitzcarraldo

No disrespect to Robards, I think he was a wonderful actor but I could not picture anyone in that role other than Klaus Kinski.

I believe there is an alternate universe where this actually happened, and I want to see that movie.

Jason Robards and Mick Jagger; that would have been a weird experience.

How about Mel Gibson in "John Carpenter's The Golden Child?"

Another interesting case of "what might have been" was when Gabourey Sidibe had to pull out of Juno and was replaced by Ellen Page.

Ya know, a circa-1970 Tim Curry would probably have worked out OK for Clockwork.

I agree. He's fantastic when the role calls for it and has a unique presence. A couple of nice TV guest roles aside, it seems like he's been heavily piling on the children show credits in recent years. I have to believe he has at least one career defining film left before he calls it a day, though.

De Niro in Home Alone (back when he was downright scary and not in caricature mode) would have been traumatizing as a kid. ...though not as traumatizing as Al Pacino and Meg Ryan in Pretty Woman...
