HD TV with Blu-Ray Qustion
I just bought a 32 inch HD TV and was wondering how good will a blu-ray disc movie look obviously on a blu-ray player when hooked up via HDMI? it's not "full high definition" by the way it's just standard high definition. The brand name is Soniq althrough the store we bought it from states that the TV was manufactured by LG. I've already tried hooking up my 360 via HDMI and it looked fantastic, will Blu-Ray give me as good results or even better? If so, which player would you recommend under $200?
anwsers will be appertained thanks.

I think he means 720p.
Yes, Blu Ray will look good on your new TV.
The Sony BDP S360 is under $200: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+B...&skuId=9317599
There are lots on players under $200, just do some looking.

Blu-ray will look good on it, but I don't know how much better it would look over say a well calibrated upconverting dvd player. When you are talking about a set that small, I know I have heard that you are not really getting the full benefits of detail that Blu-ray can offer when say the same 2 players are compared on something 46" or greater. That and the fact the the set is not even 1080p, ad this is a question for others but would that not essentially be downgrading the image of the Blu-ray then allbeit still a great picture?

720p HD is still a better resolution than 480p SD.
In fact, the Fox owned HD channels (Fox, FX, Fox Sports, etc.) and the Disney owned HD channels (ABC, Disney Channel, Disney XD, ESPN, etc.) broadcast in 720p HD.
Wal-Mart and Target offer BD players for less than $120 with some good features so you can always pick one of these up and compare the picture to your DVD.

FWIW, I saw this player at Costco for $109.99. The strange thing was that it was the 360, not the Costco version of the 360.

This is the bluray player i have and it works great!
OP, I have a 32" 720p tv in my bedroom and a 42" 1080p tv in my living room. both of them i use my bluray players on all the time. Yes, the 42" does look better, but the 32" still looks really good.
And there is a BIG difference between an upconverted dvd and a bluray on a 32". you can see the difference!

Re: HD TV with Blu-Ray Qustion
1080p is pointless on a 32'' TV (except if used as a PC monitor). The human eye can't make out a difference.
Some people can't see/claim not to see much of a difference between upscaled DVDs and Blu-Rays. This increases with smaller TVs. This will increase further if you sit far away from your TV (>5 feet).

I have a blu-ray player connected to a 720p 32in LCD TV. While the higher resolution becomes difficult to discern beyond a certain distance, the colors nevertheless maintain their punch, even from across the room.
Generally, this is one thing many fail to consider, the color advantages of HD as opposed to mere resolution.

Re: HD TV with Blu-Ray Qustion
thanks for the answers guys, althrough I must ask another question that I forgot to mention previously..
Does it make a difference if my TV is "Blu-Ray Ready"? Because I'm not sure if it is, or if it isn't. It's "HD Ready" if that makes any differences....

As long as you have an HDMI connection, you are Blu-ray Disc Player ready. You can still use a component connection (Red, Blue, Green) but most TVs will only allow a 720p input through this.

Re: HD TV with Blu-Ray Qustion
Yup I have 3 HDMI ports, and like I said, I've tested it with my 360, so looks like I'm right to go..
thanks all, to those who haven't, fell free to contribute with any useful info as I'll be tracking this thread for any updates..
Whats the Pioneer BDP-120 Blu-Ray Player like? -- http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/home%...-player/448197
is it region-free for Blu-Ray discs? because it says Progressive Scan Type(s) PAL/NTSC
anyone know if its a good player or not, because I'm considering buying it, and would confirm it if its region-free for blu-rays....

Re: HD TV with Blu-Ray Qustion
I'm tired of people saying 32' tvs that are 1080p are useless. If that was true they wouldn't exist. Of course you are going to notice a bigger change on a larger sceen that's common sense.

Re: HD TV with Blu-Ray Qustion
While I do agree that 32" is still good with 1080p, saying that if it wasn't necessary then they wouldn't exist is a huge fallacy. Manufactures commonly add things that aren't needed to jack up the price and make more money from the items.

1080p is only available with downloadable on demand movies due to bandwidth constraints.

Re: HD TV with Blu-Ray Qustion
This is debatable. Some argue that 1080i is better, others think that 720p is better. In general I've heard that 720p handles motion better then 1080i.

But doesn't it also depend on the program? I have noticed that some shows are only in 720p while shows like LOST are 1080....

Re: HD TV with Blu-Ray Qustion
In my humble opinion, 1080p makes sense only on 40" and bigger HDTV sets. It's with a 40" set that you can start to appreciate the full 1080p detail from a Blu-ray player.
