South Park - "201" - 4/21/2010

Angry celebrities, violent ginger kids and Mecha Streisand are about to destroy South Park and all anyone wants to know is, “Who is Eric Cartman’s father?”

It's a little worrisome that they've shown no new footage or stills from tonight's episode.

Well they could still do another Terrence and Phillip show then this episode would air next week to finish the run.

It will be interesting to see what they even do for this episode tonight because of the threats made against them and the coverage that it has been getting.

Watch them take the bear costume off Muhammad and it turns out that it's just a Mexican they hired like when they had them write the essays/esses.

I love that people are all worked up into a frenzy again about who Cartman's father is and are already promising to be mad if there's another T&P episode instead.

I'll be disappointed if it's not a T&P special.

I just don't see it. Maybe they'll tease another T&P special, but they won't really do it. Don't care either way, but it just seems too predictable.

Thats what Im expecting. For them to start the episode w/ a recap of last weeks, then say tonights episode wont be shown to show "T&P Anus 2" and then see just kiddin, on to our regular scheduled programming.

Oh, and fuck those douches making threats against Parker and Stone!

That would be pretty brilliant as it would show how lame and ridiculous the whole issue is when they can just say it wasn't Muhammad, but some random dude pretending to be him.

Re: South Park - "201" - 4/21/2010

If they wont actually show Muhammad, I hope that's what they go with, or something like that. Maybe whoever it is in the costume, if it's not some random Mexican, is whoever Cartman's dad is.

Then again, I would be amused if they just did something awful and vile to whoever is in the bear costume, just the worst things ever, then at the very end they remove the head and it's not actually Muhammad.

Whatever they do, there are tons of different ways they could go with this.

I used to think that about the mystery voice in the windowless U-Haul and then the mascot costume, but having seen their Boing Boing interview, if they cop-out by it not being Muhammad, then they're huge hypocrites.

They should just go all out and have Muhammad turn out to be Cartman's father.

I can't see it being someone that would empower Cartman to go completely balls to the wall. It has to be someone whose association is going to knock him down a notch or two.

Or, it could very well turn out that Mr. Hat is totally full of shit, and it's not going to be anybody.

They wouldn't really be hypocrites. They WANT to do it and have been trying to since the Cartoon Wars episodes. You can't blame them if Comedy Central or whoever won't let them do it because if it was up to them they already would have shown him. The thing that I totally don't get is how they were able to pull if off way back in 2001 or whenever with the Super Best Friends episode, but now suddenly the Muslims are trying to say that you can't show an image of Muhammad at all. Makes no sense to me.

Re: South Park - "201" - 4/21/2010

I think the lack of previews is an indicator of last minute tweaking in response to the threats they've received. And not in the manner the folks at Revolution Muslim would appreciate.

Mohammad in his bear costume should end up in a furry party getting buggered by Tom Cruise. After Jesus and before John Smith. Anything less is a copout.

They said in the interview posted in the other thread that the catalyst was the Danish cartoon uproar. They said before that it was apparently okay, after that it wasn't.

FWIW, Muhammad sired many illegitimate children, so him being Cartman's father wouldn't be too out of step with actual history.

That's always been a part of Islam, where they consider it blasphemy to have depictions of Muhammad and/or God, dating back to the start of the religion, which is why there's no such thing as religious art in the Muslim faith like there is in almost every other religion. The Denmark cartoonists just brought this to the forefront and made it a bigger, wider issue than it was before.

The big problem I feel is that "blasphemy" by definition cannot be perpetrated by someone who doesn't believe in whatever faith they're ridiculing. You can only blaspheme/reject a religion you believe. So to call it blasphemy when someone outside of their faith does it is just silly and more than a little insecure.

There are old (as in, centuries) depictions of Muhammad in art, but it's been a no-no to depict him for a long time.

The Danish cartoons have stirred up a lot of media attention recently, and a lot the Islamic nutjobs were butthurt and went apeshit, so it's a particularly sore point now.

Oh, I completely understand that. I was just referring to the interview with Matt and Trey, where they gave their own opinion on where the okay/not okay line was apparently drawn.

Re: South Park - "201" - 4/21/2010

For what it's worth, the title of this episode is also the episode number of the "Not Without my Anus" episode.

Wasn't that one the first episode of the second season?

Hmmm...

That is not true in the slightest. Islam has a long history of art, and of illustrating Muhammed.
