If they keep adding more people to this cast i am gonna start hoping they go the Burn Notice route and pop up their affiliation after the short hiatuses these shows take.

Re: The Vampire Diaries -- "Under Control" -- 04/15/10
Just went through a 4 episode marathon. Got so behind, but decided I needed to catch up today on my day off.
I didn't think this episode was boring at all. I thought it was great and kept up the momentum since the return from the hiatus.
So Stefan is basically losing his mind now with hunger since he consumed Elena's blood after getting injured seriously the previous week. I think that will add an interesting dynamic to the last few episodes of the season.
Melinda Clarke's age is finally showing. I could see alot of the wrinkles, especially on the close up shots. She still looks damn good at age 40. Is it just me or is she always getting casted as a cougar/temptress? Not that there is anything wrong with that. I did read that she will be in the new La Femme Nikita re-boot for the CW if that gets picked up.
David Anders introduction as Uncle John is interesting. I do think he's a good actor, but it seems like he plays every single character the same way. Now I wonder what the deal is with that magical ring that brought him and Alaric back to life?
Nina once again looked great in this episode, especially in that short cocktail dress.
The one thing that does bug me is how cold and non-caring they treat alot of the deaths on this show. Damon has murdered so many people including Elena's birth Mom and then Vicki, but they literally treat it as if he swatted a fly on the wall. And it bugs me that Elena still interacts with him like it's all good.

I think the show does have a few too many characters. The blonde who's dating Elena's ex and the witch to me really add nothing to the overall story arc. Although I understand they will probably keep the witch around since she's Elena's BFF.
I did like the introduction of Kelly Hu's character Pearl a few weeks ago. Hopefully she will stick around awhile.

I did see all those things you mentioned including Elena's phone call to her mother.
When I said mystery, I actually meant Elena trying to locate her.

I was more referring to the poster who mentioned he didn't think her mom was dead.
