Amazon refunded 50% of the PS3 value due to removal of OtherOS via FW 3.21!
I'm shocking when I push my luck today at this morning by simply emailing Amazon about the removal of OtherOS via system update. But how come I'm seeing 20% of the value from the original source instead of 50% from mine?

$ony removed OtherOS feature due to security concern, and that applies only to the fat PS3 20/60/80gb models, not the slim.

Wow!
I'm not going to do it, call it whatever you want, but I just can't do it. But good for the ones that try it and are approved. I saw earlier that in Europe they were receiving refunds too.

Half the people getting credits I doubt even cared/knew about Other Os. They are just using it as an excuse for free money. I think that's what he mans by unethical. I wouldn't do this myself. The ps3 will still play my games without it, what more do you need?
If you legitimately used the Other Os feature then it isn't a problem to ask, but if you didn't then IMO it's the same as stealing and taking advantage of amazon's good nature

That's exactly what I mean. Most people didn't even know about it, and are like "cool, free money."
The OP apparently feels like he deserves to get refunded three times.
I don't care about the OS, and my old system is eligible. But I won't go and try and lie and say I am upset it was removed because I'm not.

Agreed. I would feel differently if the refund was coming from Sony, but why on earth should Amazon or Walmart be at fault here? Seems like the customer service reps don't even know what's going on...

What problem? It's simply an update from Sony themselves. Neither Amazon nor any other retailer should be handing out checks for this.
