What I find interesting is them bringing back a bunch of contestants from season 1.

Gail Simmons is joining season 2 as a regular judge along with the Gael Greene, James Oseland and Jay Rayner.

Kelly Choi is back as host.

Bios of the season 2 contestants:

http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef-masters/season-2/bios

"First Date Dinner" synopsis:

Things get steamy in the Season 2 opener when competing pro chefs Ana Sortun, Govind Armstrong, Jerry Traunfeld, Jimmy Bradley, Susan Feniger and Tony Mantuano create aphrodisiacal dinners for romantic first dates. Gail Simmons joins the judges' table for Season 2.

I think they blew their load name wise in Season 1. I'm sure there are many fine chefs in season 2 but i don't think there is the same name recognition as season 1.

Well as I said they are bringing back alot of the chefs from season 1 who didn't make it.

Unless you are really on top of who's who in the culinary world, I don't think I would be able to keep up with all the names on that list.

Kind of a dull episode. Maybe it was because I didn't know about any of the chefs, because all the food they cooked looked great. All the chefs seemed pretty focused on winning but not so much about just having fun with the competition.

I think it was very unfair to team them up. These are world class chefs that would never have to "team up" in the real world. Let their food stand for itself.

There are enough great chefs in the USA to remove the need to revisit people we've already seen.

Weaksauce. Kelly Choi? Give me back Padma.

Yeah, I thought teaming them up was okay for the quickfire challenge, but in the elimination round they should have each stood on their own.

Re: Top Chef Masters -- Season 2 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 04/07/10

Just to let you know, there was a new episode on Wednesday. If you missed it, It's Bravo and will get re-aired a dozen times during the week. It's now back to 10pm on Wednesday's.

"It's My Party"

Meal masters Carmen Gonzalez, David Burke, Marcus Samuelsson, Monica Pope and Thierry Rautureau serve up fare for a birthday bash thrown by actor Mekhi Phifer and his pals.
I really liked watching this show last summer, but I think they started this a little too early. They should have waited until June or July with less on.

I'm assuming by the gigantic reaction from last week that there isn't alot of excitement for this right now.

For some reason, I can't get into this anymore. I love Top Chef, but I got really bored at around the 30 minute mark and completely tuned out. I hope it's me and not that this is just a boring show. I hope I'm interested again by the time Graham Elliot shows up, his restaurant is pretty darn good.

It's not you. Masters is plain boring, and I'm a big Top Chef fan.

Was entertained by the first episode, but like last season, I was wishing more and more for LESS of the judges. Worst collection of judges on any reality competition show, IMO. I find myself fast forwarding through most of the judging.

This show is dull, and that Choi ditz and her fake smile are annoying as hell.

It's certainly not really competitive. It lacks that edge..

Re: Top Chef Masters -- Season 2 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 04/07/10

I've watched 2 of the 8 episodes that have aired so far and yeah I guess I have to agree that it's not as fun as last summer for some reason. Maybe they premiered the show way too early and noone cares right now. I saw that ratings for this were quite low. Plus, I didn't like that they brought back several of season 1's losers to the competition.

Re: Top Chef Masters -- Season 2 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 04/07/10

Maybe this was an editing quirk... when they were doing the quickfire with the sauces (and identifying ingredients sequentially) one of the chefs missed an ingredient and Choi said something to the effect "this is a Thai curry sauce and sorry that ingredient is not in it" and then went to the the next chef and asked them for an ingredient.

I assume the identification of the sauce was edited in after the fact and she didn't identify it and then ask one of the Master chefs to provide an ingredient based on a blind taste test after telling him what the sauce was?

It was a minor thing, but bothersome.

I don't know how many of you are still watching this, but tonight is the Season Finale. The real Top Chef returns next week.

That was so clearly Susur Lee's night. What a shame.

Susur is a mad crazy genius, I love the guy. rick loves the guy.

Marcus I wasn't mad about.

It was definitely that tuna/wasabi ball...thing that Susur made which was his downfall. Even if it tasted amazing, it looked like something a toddler put together.

I'm glad Marcus won due to the charity he was playing for but I'm surprised Rick didn't take it based on the comments they aired about the food.

I don't know, to me the result seemed to be political. I know they edit things to portray things in a certain light, but NO ONE liked Marcus' third dish, but I think they wanted to make a statement about promoting African food.
