Dragon Dynasty has done right (about time)
I just got the new The Protector blu-ray and I will have to say that I am impressed. Not only did they include both cuts of the movie, but they are both in 1080p with an average bit rate of 23. I will even go so far as to say that Tom yun-goon looks a tab bit better than The Protector. Even though they botched their first two blu-rays (although with 36th Chamber, I can not see what the big deal is. Looks good to me. The Killer looks really soft) I think that they have done right with this release. I know that Fist of Legend is going to be the US cut, as the blu-ray has already been released in the U.K. Here's hoping that they don't fuck up again, but this is Dragon Dynasty so you know they will.

I think the big deal with 36th Chamber is the Blu-Ray barely looks better than the DVD, which was absolutely fantastic by SD standards.

Yeah, [b]Protector[/i] is a fantastic looking/sounding blu-ray, with a sold roster of extras (though they dropped the great hour-long fly-on-the-wall making-of that was on the dvd - I suppose to make room for the video bit-rate).
It's still Tony Jaa's best film.

which doesn't mean much sadly. I respect his ability but...he's just not the most convincing man to act in what little he has to act of. He's as weak as the plot when it comes to his acting. Action wise...guy is good. He just needs a better design of his fights.

Never before has a man with a helium voice yelling "WHERES MY ELEPHANT!?" in Thai been so entertaining!

Seems like they did good, for the most part, on the picture for Fist of Legend. Audio isn't an upgrade, features are the same (which is fine), though...DVDbeaver seems to say that this seems like it has Dubtitles...they're looking into it so....there will be a word on that later.

If you guys haven't seen the movie, skip "The Protector" and go right to the original movie, "Tom Yung Goong"
I have the movie on DVD and still haven't watched the American cut.

Yeah..i've yet to watch the American cut but...from what I hear is they cut a lot of the that small annoying thai guy that's there for comedic relief...so maybe that was for the better.

Both cuts suck. I saw the US cut in theaters and made sure to rent the original Thai cut based on claims that it was so much better. It's the same crappy movie but longer. At least the US cut got to the fights quicker (the only reason to watch the movie).

Yeah the Thai cut has that annoying guy way too much. The Thai cop, I mean..not Jaa. Jaa is annoying though...he has a horrible voice.

Both cuts do indeed suck. Thai cut is too long with too many bad western actors and too much of Mark's terrible English. The DD cut is only 83 mins which is rediculously short. Somewhere between 90-100mins would've been perfect for me.

As for the "Fist Of Legend" BD:
Good news:
1080p, all extras from the previous disc are there.
Bad news:
still has dubtitles, not the Hong Kong original version.
The UK BD from Cine-Asia has all the extras from the US disc, 1080p, and improved subtitles....

^the DD dvd version does not have dubtitles. it might not be 100% correct, but it does not match the english dialogue at all. Apparently the Blu does have dubtitles

So the UK is the one to get, then. That sounds like what you're saying.

The better of the 2, yes, but they are both the same US cut, and not the Hong Kong version.

BTW, I finally picked up Protector for $15 and its definitely worth upgrading. I did notice that it loses some extras from the DVD though.
