Very disappointed in Two Minute Rule by Robert Crais. Just started:
Just finished last night- Michael Crichton's Eaters of the Dead.
I thought it was great.
Which the movie the 13th Warrior is based upon.
It's going to be a hectic next few months for me so I'll
just be reading a few small articles out of my History magazines.
There's a few good ones I want to get into from my Wild West
magazine concerning Custer and Benteen and the Little Big Horn.
So that's what i'll be getting into next.
I'm finally getting around to reading the English translation of Koji Suzuki's RING. So far, so good. It's different enough from the movies that it's almost like reading a sequel.
Wish I were reading it on my Kindle, but had to go with the hardcover since I love all of Butcher's novels!
I didn't know this was out, so I just ordered my copy. It should be in by Tuesday, now I have to finish what I'm reading before it arrives.

Just did a quick read of Ayn Rand's Anthem. Whoever that is around with that quote in their sig about comparing Lord of the Rings to Rand's works (ie, fantastical setting with trollish characters) was spot on.
Have also been squeezing in short stories from the Nebula Award collections from the late 60's/early 70's here and there.
I was amazed at the positive reviews for this book, which I thought was pretty awful.
Yeah this is a book club book! I'm about 1/2 way done and I'm shot. I have to put myself in to a fever dream to listen to it on the iPod. I can't wait til this is over!

Is it good? I've been tempted to get it, but I always end up reading something else.

I'm about 30% done and, yes, so far it is really good. It does start off a bit slow and the writing style is a little odd (in my opinion). But, I would say that, if you're a fan of mystery and crime novels, you would like it -- or, the first 30% at least.
Thoughts on the book (although the *sigh* gives it away)?
Not very good, to sappy and way to many 13-14 year olds having sex. It got unbearable the chapter Ruth passed out on the dirt road. I loved the grandmother though especially the way she stepped in after the mother left.

Has anyone else read any of Tana French's books? I read the first one (In The Woods) and while I liked it a lot, there were definitely some issues that caused me to give it a lower rating than I would have liked to, based on the book as a whole (trying not to give anything away).

Its translated from Sweedish so thats where the style oddness comes from

And the book is excelent
You're right, I hadn't thought about the translation issues.
I did finish the book and it is very, very good. In fact, about halfway thru, I began to really like the writing style (once I adjusted to it, perhaps). I highly recommend this book! I'm looking forward to reading the second book, but first I'm taking a detour...
Starting Robin Hobb's Soldier's Son trilogy. I've been putting it off for a while since I've heard from a number of people that it's a let down from her previous works. But I've liked everything she's written and I should judge for myself, right?

How was Flood? I've been meaning to start Vachss' Burke series for a while now.
I liked it. It is the first Vachss I have read and the first in the Burke series. I will read more Vachss after reading Flood.

Finished John Connolly's "Dark Hollow". (It has already been 6 years since I read "Every Dead Thing", the first in the Charlie Parker series!) Even though it started a little slowly, it always kept my interest as I love his writing. Sure kicked into high gear toward the end, though.
First we rented Frost/Nixon on Blu-ray from Netflix. Then, I streamed the original Watergate interview episode. It seemed serendipitous when I came across this at Half Price Books for $3.98 on the 17th. The first part is a collection of reminisces and hindsight; the second part are excerpts from the transcripts. I'm already onto the transcripts.
One caution for anyone who might be interested: Frost assumes (and probably rightly so) that if you're interested in his 30 year retrospective on those interviews, that you're already well familiarized with the key players and timeline. I'm sure the lion's share of readers know the ins and outs intimately, but given that this was published to coincide with the film's release, I do fear that the newbie reader who is beginning his or her foray into the world of Richard Nixon with this volume might be a tad intimidated.
Man, you are really flying thru those Parker novels!
Yeah, I'm definitely in the zone. At ~150 pages per book, they are very quick reads.
Also, how can you not be hooked when the opening sentence reads as follows: "Parker spent two weeks on the white sand beach at Biloxi, and on a white sandy bitch named Belle..." :)
