Justified -- "Fixer" -- 03/30/10

Justified

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Raylan hunts for an informer, while a pair of ex-cons with violence on their minds hunt for Raylan.

Almost forgot this was on tonight as well. Tuesday's are pretty jam packed.

Like the show for the most part. Only problem is that it wants to portray Kentucky as being predominantly occupied by dumb rednecks who want to shoot at everything.

Yeah. It was amazingly written and delivered tonight. LOVED all the double crossing. And that scene with Curtis/Raylan was some hilarious shit.

Only negative was I was actually looking forward to the duel with the leg breaker that never happened.

Loving this show so far, and yeah...really liked the Detroit guy, too bad!

The only strange thing...seemingly everybody on Earth knows about the incident in Miami.

It was mentioned that the incident in Miami did make the news.

I really enjoyed it too, much more then i thought given that it seems to be going in more a 'crime of the week' plan.

I really liked him cutting the 20K reward to 10K so it would look like a double cross on the money... only to have it turned into 5K.

I wonder when they are going to go pick back up on the Cletus Van Damn story arc.

Re: Justified -- "Fixer" -- 03/30/10

I'm just not digging this show like I had hoped. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I think one thing is the look of the show. My favorite cable dramas (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Shield, Sons of Anarchy) have a distinct visual style that sets the tone of the show and immerses you in their world. Justified doesn't have that.

I like the Elmore Leonard feel they're going for, but it's not quite clicking for me. The dialogue doesn't crackle like in Leonard's novels. Timothy Olyphant is terrific, but a lot of the other actors (especially the guest stars) just aren't on the same level. I wish they hadn't killed off Peter Greene - he would have made a great foil for Olyphant (better than Walton Goggins IMO).

That would be like looking foreward to Mike Tyson fighting Gary Coleman.

Plus they did have the duel. He scared the shit out of him by not only demonstrating his pull, but took his clip out and taunted him Dirty Harry style

Leonard is an Executive Producer and the show is based on one of his short stories, which based on the title leads me to believe that the relationship with Goggins will prove important

As far as guest stars...it was 4 years before THE SHIELD pulled MONSTER star names to guest

Exactly. They already showed us how that "duel" would've gone down.

That's what I came in here to post. The Travis/Curtis/Pinter story was pure Leonard.

One question I have and this may have been addressed in a previous episode but have they ever explained why the girl Raylan is falling for is not in jail? didn't she shoot her husband in cold blood? As far as I can tell there was no self defense in shooting an unarmed man while he ate dinner.

Battered Wife Syndrome maybe? Didn't she say that he beat her and she finally couldn't take it anymore? They might have mentioned something about her posting bond, but I don't really recall.

This show is great. It's like a more interesting version of In Plain Sight. Seems like it's more a realistic portrayal of the US Marshalls.

Re: Justified -- "Fixer" -- 03/30/10

This episode bored the hell out of me. I nearly fell asleep. I agree that all of the gueststarts/costarts seem too weak next too Olypohant. That guy he killed in the first scene should have been a regular.

The show needs an arc.

I agree. It does seem like they're building to something with Raylen's father, and Walton Goggins not being dead.

Re: Justified -- "Fixer" -- 03/30/10

This week's episodes had a few good scenes (as in the quick draw already mentioned), but I thought it was the weakest episode thus far.
