American Idol Top 10, March 30/31
In the latest Idol news… CKX, the company that owns 19 Entertainment which is the division that produces American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, is discussing the sale of the company. Simon Cowell used to own CKX but sold it in 2005. CKX also owns the rights to Elvis Presley’s name and image; Graceland’s operations; and an 80 percent stake in Muhammad Ali’s name and licensing agreements. The C and K in the company’s name stand for the saying “content is king.” The X is from Mr. Sillerman’s middle initial (Sillerman is CKX’s chairman and chief executive).
Anyway, this week Usher is the host and the theme will be soul songs.
Two hour show on Tuesday, one hour show on Wednesday. No word on who will be performing on Wednesday but my guess would be Usher, who has a new record out this week.
Who will be going home this week?

I think Usher and Justin Bieber will perform on Wednesday.
Tim Urban is primed to be going home but if he somehow survives because of the tween votes, then Andrew and Katie are in danger. Andrew will probably try and do something like an acoustic version of Umbrella.

Here is the list of 125 song from which the contestants had to choose, in spoilers due to the length:

Tim Urban should choose "Forever" by Chris Brown and dance around in the aisle like in that YouTube wedding video. He's not going to win, might as well continue to urk Kara before he goes. Hell, why not run up to her and grind in her face?

Siobhan Magnus - Sounded thin to me, but I didn't much care for the song, but there she goes with those long-ass notes trying to salvage the performance, but it was nothing special.
Casey James - he should try to sing all his songs like Huey Lewis, I think it suits his vocal range and confidence.
Michael Lynche - someone wake me up when he's done. The hand-waving in the crowd was too much. Why won't he go home sooner, rather than later? I still can't stand how he sings songs, or mugs for the camera.
Didi Benami - I think her voice really isn't suited for the song, and she just wasn't able to capture the original flavor of the song, so it did sound a-melodious. She has this weird tempo to her vocals that makes for some sing-songy-ness to her performances.
Tim Urban - so slow, too slow. The performance was Worthy of a high school musical, no more than that. But it might have been the best that he's done so far. How weird is that?
Andrew Garcia - his one-octave voice was in fine form, grateful for an up tempo performance after far too many slow ones so far. He successfully deconstructed the song and wrung out any R&B flavor out of it. Blah.
Katie Stevens - sounded the best she has this season, and had more confidence as well, I think she just needed to up her energy level a bit more to make a bigger impact, but it was a credible vocal.
Lee Dewyze - I think this vocal would have worked sung as a capella too, it was that strong, he has finally let go of his inhibitions and just stood there and sang his heart out, brought good energy and passion to the song. Good performance.
Crystal Bowersox - thought she would never get going on the song while she was on the piano, but thankfully she got up and did some singing to salvage the performance. Didn't much care for her scream 2/3 into the song, so it was above average, but not one of her best.
Aaron Kelly - Thought the tempo was also too slow, but Ed Grimley Jr. did okay tonight. His stage presences still needs alot of work.

I watched the second half of the show.
Lee Dewyze - wow, that was a great performance! He finally came out of his shell and delivered one heck of a performance!
Crystal Bowersox - I was kind of turned off by her not singing for Usher, seemed kind of arrogant. Very good performance though. Hope the guitar comes back.
Katie Stevens - doing better, I think she will stick around to the Top 5 or so. And I'd like to thank her and American Idol for not mentioning her grandmother.
The rest were sort of so-so though keep in mind I missed the first four (including Siobhan and Michael Lynche). That being said, I voted for Tim Urban ten times and my prediction for who will be going home is... Andrew Garcia.

They might as well send everyone home and crown Crystal the winner. She is so head and shoulders above the rest, I find myself wondering if the producers planned it that way, to insure cornering the indie market.
But, yeah, Crystal is the real thing...

The problem is that this is still a popularity contest, and I'm not sure she's the most popular... (well, maybe more of a "which fans can dial the most times" instead of a popularity contest, but close enough)

While I see the talent that Crystal has, I don't particurally like her or the type of music she seems to be picking to sing. I would not really care if she went home.
(Just to put this post in context - I am 42, male, and generally like Rock, Country, and Pop.)

Re: American Idol Top 10, March 30/31
Crystal is the only reason I'm still watching this season. A few of the others are okay, but they aren't interesting enough to devote time to.
I liked Usher as a mentor. His "I knows" were like night and day compared to Aaron's. The kid's far too young to have the passion that song requires. I cringed the second I heard he was singing a Bill Withers song.
Glad to see Lee and Andrew finally live up to their potential. Both had enjoyable performanaces. I also liked Michael Lynch, though I didn't recognize the song and found it a bit dull.
Once again, the song choices were puzzling. I think only 2 of those songs were recorded in the last 10 years. For all of the talk about being "current," many of those performances were straight out Muzak.
Siobhan and Didi were both terrible. It was difficult to get through their songs without fastforwarding.

Damn... the girls are getting slaughtered. Next week's bottom three will probably be Tim, Siobhan, and Katie, with Katie going home.
And I don't know shit about Usher, but his song -- if you can even call it a song -- sucked Randy's giant balls. Is he always that shitty? Even with autotune he sounded like Rainman.

Definitely not a season filled with dynamic performers! The real question is whether or not Simon will take a swing at Ryan before the season ends!

Re: American Idol Top 10, March 30/31
The sad part is there was some real potential for a great Top 12 from the 24 they gave us. Once Lily and Alex were cut, it was clear America had other plans.
Hell, even Haeley would have been a better Sanjaya-style trainwreck than Tim.
The thing that confuses me the most is the rise of Dewyze. I like the guy as a person and obviously he's got some talent, but I'm just not seeing what the judges are seeing. Still, he's proof that if you tell the audience how amazing someone is over and over again, they'll start to believe it. Judging by the poll on TVGuide.com, the final 3 at this point would be Crystal as winner, followed by Lee in 2nd place and Siobhan in 3rd.

Too bad they didn't also warn us about the awful auto-tuning in both Usher's and Diddy's songs. Seriously, as silly as it sounds on a recording it sounds 10 times as ridiculous in these 'live' performances. I get when someone with a marginal singing voice leans on it like a crutch, but someone like Usher who actually has a decent singing voice is wasting themselves on that crap.

Re: American Idol Top 10, March 30/31
Only in a brain-dead craptastic industry like the music industry could a technical abortion like auto-tune even be considered viable let alone wildly succeed. How could any serious artist ever consider using this piece-of-shit technology? For me it's gotten to the point where listening to a new song is like fingernails on a blackboard.
That said, I was sorry to see Didi go; I thought she had a nice personality and was very easy on the eyes. Although I'd have to say that, talent-wise, she probably deserved to go.

They can't even get the result show done on time! It went over about 2 minutes.
Stop with the stupid chit chat already!
