DVDTalk draft game

I don't know if something like this has been done before on this forum, but I've participated in ones on others before and it's a lot of fun.

It goes like this: We need 16 people (well 15 plus me) to sign up in this thread, and then a random draft order will be selected (via the ol' "drawing names out of a hat" method). Each person will have 24 hours to submit their selection. For this draft the subject matter is movie characters. As long as this character appeared in a big screen feature, it's all good. Any era, etc. If a character has been played by multiple actors (James Bond, Batman, etc), you will have chosen the character and their entire filmography, not just say, Sean Connery in Dr. No.

The draft will go 10 rounds (10 characters) and will start at the beginning of the draft order for round 1 and at the end for round 2, etc. For example, at the end of round 1 the 16th person will make the final selection for that round as well as the first pick of the next round. This is so the people at the back of the draft don't get screwed.

After all the picks have been made a bracket will be made and polls created for each matchup. Anyone on DVDtalk can vote. The polls will stay open for 3 days. Winners move on to the next round until we have a winner!

Winner gets a prize! I'll spend 15 dollars on a dvd (or blu-ray) of your choosing from an online retailer.

Anyway, who's in, anyone interested? If you are please be a user who signs in daily.

If so, post a reply saying you're up for it. Thanks!

Re: DVDTalk draft game

So we're just voting on which characters we like better? The Movie Draft game was far more complex, so I just want to make sure that characters is all we're talking about.

Someone please explain this "draft" thing to me. I didn't get it the last time it was played, and I don't get it now.

yes, the voter simply decides "which list of characters do I like better". It's not a best characters of all time, it's all personal preference.

Well the draft is done in turn, 1-16 (and then backwards and vice versa each round). Whomever is up "drafts" a character and that character is part of their team, list, whatever. Obviously once a character has been chosen they are no longer an option for others. Think of it as a sports draft.

I'll give it a try. But I'm still confused about the elimination part. If there are only 16 contestants, how does it go for 10 rounds? How many people are eliminated each round?

16 players, 8 matchups, then 4, then 2, etc.

10 characters per team.

Oh, I see now. We each pick ten characters for our team, and then people vote on the whole teams. Is that it?

Re: DVDTalk draft game

What the hell. I'm in for crack at a $15 Blu-ray.

I have a question, though: are real people eligible? For instance, Adolf Hitler has been played by a lot of actors in a lot of movies. Does he count? (I picked him as my example because I have no intention of picking him, even if he is eligible.)

Re: DVDTalk draft game

yes, actors/actresses portraying real people is all good. and as you mentioned, if this person has been played numerous times in different movies by different people, you are picking the character as a whole.

Re: DVDTalk draft game

What comprises a "team?" Are there "positions" such as "pick one hero, one sidekick, one romantic interest, one villain, two henchmen, one director, etc.?"

I might bite, if I can figure this out.
