RIP - Dick Giordano

Dick Giordano has passed away. He was one of the best inkers to work in comics, and a good guy.

Sorry to hear about this. Giordano was already a giant in the industry when I started reading the funnybooks and paying any attention to credits. I never met the guy, but from what I've heard over the years, he was one of the industry's good guys.

If you're into comics, Giordano's name is fairly well-known, especially with his many years of involvement with DC Comics as Executive Editorial Director during the 1980's. That was at the time when DC Comics produced a lot of landmark works--Crisis on Infinite Earths, the highly-successful "retcon" of Wonder Woman, Watchmen, and many others.

Gawd, it makes me feel old.

Well, Dick was in his late 70s. It's never easy to say goodbye to an artist whose work you admire, but we can be thankful that we got to enjoy so many years of great work from him.

RayChuang already mentioned his spectacular editorial work in the 80s, so I will add my praise for his work at Charlton in the 60s. He was the editor who shepherded the "Action Heroes" line, featuring the likes of Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, and the Question. Indeed, it was probably this history with Charlton that led him to later suggest to Alan Moore that he rework his "Who Killed the Peacemaker" story proposal to include original characters (and thus were born Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, and Rorschach).

And, of course, he was one of the all-time great inkers.

Re: RIP - Dick Giordano

Loved his style. His work with Neal Adams is of course legendary. RIP Dick.
