With Lost nearing it's end, I thought it was time to do a thread about who people think will be the chosen one to protect the island.

My vote goes to Hurley. He is a selfless man that seems to have nothing but good in his heart. He is also similar to the Biblical character Job. Keeps getting cursed with horrible things throughout his life after winning the lottery but always seems to be in good spirits and is an all around good guy.

I think it'll be Jack since he's the only one to notice anomalies in his flash sideways...and from the start, he's been set up as the "main character."

Some people may think there may be more than one person to be chosen. Just a possibility.

Assuming that a candidate will take over for Jacob, it will be Jack.

Jack has been set up as the main character since the pilot.

Jack has slowly been shifting to a man of faith, the scene with the dynamite in the Black Rock shows how far he's come in that regard.

They've been setting up a big Jack vs Locke moment for years now.

IMO, Jack would be the most interesting choice. He hates the island and wants to go back to a normal life more than everyone but he understands the powers of the island... so I can see him completely hating becoming Jacob but at the same time taking over the job without much argument because he will understand what happens if he doesn't.

I think it will end being Hugo, but something will happen to him and Jack will be involved in destroying the Man in Black once and for all.

I am starting to realize that I really don't care much anymore. This season has been so boring and silly, I'm just hanging on to the end since it is near.

I think it's fairly obvious to anybody who has read my theories on how the series may end for whom I chose. But I don't think they will in turn protect the island...they will find a loop hole that allows his friends to be alive again and live their lives free of the island's/Jacob's influence and somehow finds a loop hole that also deals with the MIB once and for all.

That's what I think, anyway.

I think the reason Jacob is dead is that it's also time for the current incarnation of the MiB to die. I think Sawyer and Jack will end up taking their places, with Sawyer being the one in the Jacob role. It seems to me that Jack is being so sold as the candidate so early that it certainly can't be him in the end.
