Justified -- "Riverbrook" -- 03/23/10

Justified

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Raylan must track down a prisoner who escapes while performing with the prison's bluegrass band at a benefit concert outside the walls. It turns out that he's a convicted bank robber with only three months left on his sentence. Meanwhile, Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), recovering from his shooting in a prison hospital, tells Raylan that he's a new man: "I am born again in the eyes of the Lord."

Looking forward to it.

I'm going to have to wait for the DVDs to watch this series since I don't have FX, but wanted to mention that the pilot is on iTunes as a free download.

Prison Bluegrass band that they hire out for parties. Gotta love it.

The Raylan and Dewey scenes are great.

I read an interview with Goggins where he said originally turned the part down and that Boyd was originally supposed to die last week but the test audiences were intrigued by the character so they rewrote it with him living.

The acting of everyone thus far on the show has really been great. Everybody is nailing the laid back southern thing. I love how nonchalant everything was this episode.

Do you have cable? I would think that most, if not all basic cable should have FX.

The thing that sucks is that FX no longer licenses full episodes of their shows online on their official site or Hulu anymore.

I love the sense of humor the series has. The escaped convict was an instantly memorable character and along with the rest of the cast, made the formulaic story seem like something special.

I'm assuming there will be a backbone plot thread once things pick up steam though, because if every week is going to be a "crime of the week" I could see people getting tired with it really quick.

I was going to mention this. Beat me to it.

I don't think we have to worry about a "crime of the week" theme in general. I can see a few popping up during the season as the actual storyline progresses but that's about it.

LOVE this new show. FX has definitely done it again. Glad Goggins will be sticking around too.

That's who that was. Man I kept saying she looked familiar but couldn't place where I had seen her before.

Seemed a lot lighter in tone than the pilot.

I am currently without cable or satellite. I watch free broadcasts, rent / buy / sell DVDs of TV series, watch some online, download some through iTunes.

Pretty good episode although I liked the pilot a little more. Not really a complaint...the pilot was more intense, this one was more fun.

True. I would like to see it lean more towards The Shields and Sons of Anarchy than Burn Notice and White Collar.

I heard a tv critic on Bill Simmons' podcast (who's name escapes me) who said the show will be episodic and not heavily serialized. He had seen the first 4 episodes but I don't know if he based his opinion just on those episodes.

Alan Sepinwall from the Newark Star Ledger. I'm a bit worried about that too.

That's what I expected anyhow when his boss mentioned all the different things they do. I'm not really sure how you could do a heavily serialized show about a lone U.S. Marshall anyhow. I'm sure they will be some recurring villains/characters though.

If all the episodes are as good as this one, I'm perfectly fine with this being more episodic.
